Let me tell you, they are talented and entertaining. We have 7 seniors from South Dakota in this article and we will tell you why they are “Must See Players”.
Must Watch Live Players
Oliver Vincent Oliver Vincent 6'1" | PG Sioux Valley | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’1 PG| Sioux Valley
Why? He is one of the most skilled players in the Dakotas. Vincent has amazing handles and he is an elite passer. Vincent’s court vision and passing touch are next level. I have watched him thread the needle and drop a ton of impressive dimes. Oli is also a hard worker that will sacrifice his body to take charges. Vincent and the Cossacks will be one of the best in Class A. Expect Oli to be a stat stuffer and a scorer that shoots a high percentage.
Kaden Year Kaden Year 6'2" | SF O'gorman | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’6 PF| Sioux Falls Jefferson
Why? I did not get a chance to watch him play live in AAU ball, but I caught Kaden a couple of times at NDSU and Concordia. Year was easily one of my favorite players that I watched play ball this summer. I love his length, versatilty, and skill. Kaden will be one of the toughest matchups in SD. He will score inside against smaller defenders and stretch the floor vs. bigger/slower defenders. He is also tough off the bounce and he passes well. Year has not committed to a college yet but he in receiving plenty of attention. Kaden had a very nice junior season and I think he is going to have a magical senior year.
Jackson Edman Jackson Edman 6'7" | SF Pierre | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’7 PF| Pierre
Why? I watched him play on BallerTV early in the AAU season and I saw him play live in June. He looked good on film, but was a complete STUD in person. Edman has been gathering looks from a good amount of schools. He recently picked up two offers from D2 schools. Edman is very strong and athletic. He is great around the rim can also hit perimeter J’s and slash for buckets. Pierre is going to be one of the most entertaining teams this winter with 2 supreme athletes, Edman and Kienholz.
Gavin Muirhead Gavin Muirhead 6'7" | PF O'gorman | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’7 PF| O’Gorman
Why? He was a monster stock riser this spring and summer. Muirhead is committed to The University of Sioux Falls for hoops. I watched Gavin play on the Prep Hoops Circuit many times during the AAU season. He dunked more than anyone I saw. Gavin has springs in his legs, he can do some amazing things above the rim. Muirhead is a spectacular alley-oop finisher. He is also a tough rim protector and rebounder. OG and Muirhead are going to be a treat to watch this winter.
Taylen Ashley Taylen Ashley 5'11" | PG Sf Roosevelt | 2023 State SD (2023) |6’0 PG| Sioux Falls Jefferson
Why? He currently has the Cavaliers rolling right along on the football field. Ashley was recently in the news as he committed to The University of Sioux Falls for hoops. Taylen had a nice summer of basketball with SD Attack and he proved that he can compete at the next level. I watched Ashley play with his high school team against Fargo Davies in June. Ashley showed off his impressive athleticism and he is a better jump shooter than I realized. When this kid gets going in transtion, look out! Taylen is a playmaker. Ashley and the Cavs are going to be SCARY this winter.
Spencer Barr Spencer Barr 5'11" | PG Aberdeen Central | 2023 State SD (2023) |5’11 PG| Aberdeen Central
Why? This summer, Barr committed to the University of Jamestown for basketball at the next level. Barr is as tough as a basketball player comes. He is a Golden Eagle, but Spencer plays with the heart of a lion. Spencer does the little things on the court to help his team. He plays selfless and his team always comes first. Barr is also a skilled shooter with a beautiful jump shot. Look for Barr to have a dynamite senior season.
Brayden Pankonen Brayden Pankonen 5'11" | PG Dell Rapids | 2023 State SD (2023) |5’11 SG| Dell Rapids
Why? A dynamic athlete that shines in multiple sports. Pankonen is lighting quick and a spark plug on the hardwood. This lefty can shoot from beyond the arc with precision. Brayden is one of the top shooters in the Dakotas. He is also an excellent passer that is no stranger to setting up teammates for great looks. Brayden is a pesky defender that has a nose for the ball. Expect a huge season from Pankonen and Dell Rapids.
