Continue ReadingAs we embark on a new school year this upcoming September in Western Pennsylvania, a good amount of student-athletes that transferred to other districts last season head into year two at their respective schools. While deciding to transfer for better academic opportunities or family situations, these players look to continue their high-level performance on the court. The new surroundings for these young men of the WPIAL helped them adjust extremely well to their current teams that will prepare them for their future endeavors.
The state guidelines declaring student-athletes ineligible for postseason play if they transfer after their sophomore year of high school will not affect these young men this season. For the high school hoopers that were declared ineligible, it will be payback time this season for those basketball players. Here at Prep Hoops PA, we will continue to follow these talented players throughout the winter months.
Connor Spratt Connor Spratt 6'3" | PG Seton LaSalle | 2023 State PA / Seton LaSalle High School
6’1 / Senior / point guard / Peters Township HS
- The ability to handle defensive pressure and find the open man is a definite strong point of this player
- He can create opportunities for himself, as well as his teammates during a game
- Connor provided the necessary guard play for his new team while developing into a leader and best player for Seton LaSalle
DaJaun Young / New Castle High School
6’2 / Senior / wing forward / transferred from Kennedy Catholic HS
- He has developed an overall balanced game during his high school years
- This hooper has the unselfishness to do whatever it takes to help his teammates
- DaJaun enjoyed playing back in his hometown school and looks forward to a great senior campaign
Damon Astorino Damon Astorino 6'2" | CG Eden Christian Academy | 2023 State PA / Eden Christian Academy High School
6’2 / Senior / combo guard / transferred from Ambridge HS
- A talented all-around player with a high basketball IQ that plays hard on both ends of the court
- He can penetrate the lane, knock down jumpers, and post up smaller guards
- Damon was a difference-maker at Eden Christian Academy last season and will look to lead them deep into the playoffs
Deandre Moye Deandre Moye 6'1" | CG Lincoln Park | 2023 State PA / Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School
6’2 / Senior / combo guard / transferred from Aliquippa HS
- This athletic combo guard has the skills necessary to take over game situations
- A knowledgeable player with high energy who is a leader on the floor
- Deandre was a quality performer with the Lincoln Park Leopards and he will be one the main guys this winter
Debaba Tshiebwe Debaba Tshiebwe 6'6" | PF Central Catholic | 2023 State PA / Central Catholic High School
6’7 / Senior / power forward / transferred from West Virginia HS
- A dominating post player that continues to work hard to fine-tune his craft
- He has the ability to be a game-changer in the paint on the defensive end
- Debaba brought toughness to his new team last season and this year bigger things are expected
Drew Sleva Drew Sleva 5'10" | PG Chartiers Valley | 2023 State PA / Chartiers Valley High School
6’0 / Senior / shooting guard / transferred from Montour HS
- An extremely talented three-point shooter coming off screens or when open in the corner/wing
- A player that can handle the ball with precision and who uses his creativity on the break
- Drew helped extend the floor all season and will be a high-level performer again on the hardwood
Kaleb Pryor Kaleb Pryor 5'10" | PG Gateway | 2023 State PA / Gateway High School
5’11 / Senior / point guard / transferred from Norwin HS
- The high motor of this young man is impressive throughout an entire contest
- A creative performer on the offensive end of the floor who creates opportunities for his team
- Kaleb went back to his former school and definitely helped them succeed
