The wing was literally all over the floor diving and creating havoc. He showed that he was much more than an energy guy however, as Montague displayed a nice offensive package. He was able to keep opponents off balance, and he used a quick 1st step to get to the rim. I liked the fact that he was able to finish with his left, a trait that I look for in developing young players.

Roy Chavez 5’7 CG Dons Basketball Club – Chavez’s team didn’t have the greatest game, however, he still caught my eye. He is more of a combo, but was the primary ballhandler for his team. Despite being hounded full court, he showed a nice handle, using some CODs and handling the ball well with both hands. The lefty prefers to get to his strong hand, but when he did he was efficient in making layups and knocking down a few runners during the game I watched.

Douglass Sweatt 5’8 PG Arizona Gremlins (featured image) – It’s no surprise Kyrie is Sweatt’s favorite player. The PG may have had the best handle at the event, doing his best Irving impersonation while weaving around opposing defenders like cones. Several times the big guard split traps giving his team an odd-man advantage. He showed good passing skills finding open players for easy layups. While he didn’t score a lot, I thought his floor generalship, ballhandling, and passing ability were all easily translatable skills.

Apollo Jennings 6’4 PF Steelers – I’m always on the search for young bigs, and Jennings is an intriguing big man with raw skills. I loved the way he moved, as he showed the ability to fluidly change ends of the floor. He also gets credit for showing good hands. Jennings caught several close-range bullet passes. He finished a bunch of catch and finishes and putbacks around the rim. Needless to say, a young player with this size has a lot of potential and upside in his game.

Aaron Newman 5’9 CG SS Elite – I’ve seen Newman a few times now and what is so impressive about him to me is how easy he makes the game look. He has good positional size and instincts seemingly knowing just the right time to hit the open man. He dissected his opponent’s 2-3 zone with pinpoint passes. His motor was only ok, however, when he wanted to he showed good burst and the ability to draw two and pass off the dribble.

Salmon Hashim 5’9 SG Steelers – You could probably describe Hashim’s game a lot of ways, I prefer to use the word throwback. The wing scored from a variety of body angles, making it look like he was playing in an old-school playground game. This does not mean that he wasn’t productive, he probably was the leading scorer for his team, as he took advantage of steals and transition plays to get some easy buckets to go with his tough off-the-bounce finishes.
