Games took place throughout the city, including at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where I spent the majority of my time. So many teams, so many prospects. Here’s a look at some Sleepers from the event.
Kaharie Loggins 6’3 SF OFG 2023 – Good story here as Loggins is a transfer from the state of Illinois who ended up in McAllen Texas. He is long and athletic but has a decent skill set. He proved that he can create for himself by getting downhill going to his right side. A big-time defender with the ability to guard multiple positions. Loggins is virtually off the radar because of the transfer last year, but his combination of defense and athleticism is intriguing.
Eutrevian Sanders 6’3 SF New Mexico Fierce 2024 – It’s easy to identify what he does well. Sanders is one of the best-undersized rebounders on the west coast. His ability to grab in traffic and out of area boards is borderline elite. He also defends multiple positions, those two skills make him a valued sleeper in the class of 2024.
Brian Townsend Brian Townsend 6'4" | SF Arbor View | 2025 State NV 6’3 SF Vegas Elite 2025 (#16PHN 2025) – It’s the combination of his frame and skill that makes Townsend so intriguing. He also displayed some improved athleticism which only adds to his stock. He’s partly a sleeper because many are unaware of which sport he will eventually choose, however, he is a basketball player. He plays with enough skill and IQ and understands what winning plays need to be made.
JJ Buchanan JJ Buchanan 6'3" | SF Coronado | 2025 State NV 6’3 SF Prominent Elite 2025 (#37PHN 2025) – Buchanan is a good physical specimen with above-average R&J ability. He’s explosive on his first jump, and that includes when he is going vertical or with a running start. He’s a two-sport star, however, if his focus shifts to basketball, consider him a nice late blooming sleeper.
Jason Lovato Jason Lovato 6'2" | PG Bernalillo | 2023 State NM 5’10 PG NM Fierce 2023 – Scoring guard that plays the game with freedom and confidence, especially on the offensive end. He has a competitive streak, that allows him to challenge players when he’s on the defensive side of the ball. He shoots it and has some wiggle in his game. Has the overall skill set to play college basketball somewhere, the question will be his height and frame.
Austin Davenport 6’4 SF Houdini’s Problems 2024 (featured image) – The entire story is intriguing. Houdini’s Problems is based out of Japan, where Davenport’s father is stationed with the Navy. He has long arms and runs the floor well. His signature skill is his rebounding. He used his aforementioned wingspan to grab what felt like every board in the game I watched. Geography alone makes him a sleeper, add in that he’s only going into his junior year, and his signature rebounding skill and you’re looking at a big time sleeper.
