We got through another high school regular season and summer basketball. Heading into this new upcoming school year, there has been several players that have raised their stock over the past couple of months. This will be part three of a four part stock risers series of articles.
Lamarion Coleman: 6’2 Forward “Sandia” Class of 2023
Lamarion Coleman from Sandia High School is a high energy forward that plays with limitless intensity. His passion and energy is contagious on the floor to his teammates which raises his play up to another level. Lamarion is a versatile wing player that can play both ends of the floor. Lamarion is a player that plays through physical contact and can hold his own with the best of them. Lamarion is really good around the basket offensively and had a good summer in the gym adding to his game. He played with more confidence this off-season and looked for his shots with aggression. This season he will be asked to play a bigger role on the offensive side of the floor.
Anthony Gonzales: 5’9 Shooting Guard “Volcano Vista” Class of 2023
Anthony Gonzales from Volcano Vista High School had a nice impact for the Hawks during his junior year this past season. He is a nice combo guard that plays the game at a nice pace and is often under control with the basketball. His play and energy helped Volcano Vista end the season undefeated at 29-0 and the 5A State Champions. After the season, the Volcano Vista hawks lost six seniors to graduation and I was impressed with what I saw from Anthony playing a bigger role this past off-season. Anthony has received more touches and opportunities to showcase his offensive arsenal. His best traits are when he has the ball in his hands, Anthony is a consistent three-point shooter and has improved at creating his own shot off the dribble.
Dalen Moyer Dalen Moyer 6'0" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM : 6’0 Point Guard “Sandia” Class of 2023
Sandia’s point guard Dalen Moyer Dalen Moyer 6'0" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM showed flashes of what he was capable of last season for the Matadors. He was the teams fourth leading scorer that averaged 8 points per game and the teams leading passer who averaged 4 assists per game last season. Dalen is one of the best ball handlers in the state and a fun isolation player to watch when he gets cooking in the zone. He does a very good job at creating his own shot when being aggressive which also helps create plays for his teammates. This summer he has been at as much camps/tournaments as anyone continuing working on his game. This should be a big year for Dalen Moyer Dalen Moyer 6'0" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM , and teammates such as Andrew Hill Andrew Hill 6'2" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM and Ely Lovato Ely Lovato 6'2" | CG Sandia | 2023 State NM .
Brian Kalb Brian Kalb 6'8" | PF St Pius | 2023 State NM : 6’8 Center “St.Pius X” Class of 2023
Brian Kalb Brian Kalb 6'8" | PF St Pius | 2023 State NM was the man in the middle for the St.Pius X Sartans last season. His presence in the middle on both sides of the floor helped St.Pius finish with a 19-9 record and reach the 4A State Semifinals last season. At his size, Brian was able to move his feet relatively well for a big man. Brian was an exceptional post player with his back to the basket and an underrated mi-range scorer. He also had good instincts and timing on the defensive end of the floor. Brian had his share of blocking shots around the rim and chase-down swats in the painted area. Expect him to be the player St.Pius revolves their team around next season.
Caileb Parham Caileb Parham 6'2" | SG Eldorado | 2023 State NM : 6’2 Forward “Eldorado” Class of 2023
Eldorado’s Caileb Parhman woke up a lot of people last season with his play for the Eagles last year. Caileb was a versatile wing player that did most of the scoring for Eldorado while leading them to the 5A State Tournament. Caileb was a player that scored many of his points in transition by playing the passing lanes for steals and easy scores on the other end. He is an athletic talented player that showed his share of dunks last season. Another dangerous element in his game is his smooth pull up jumper after facing you up with confidence. Caileb has an underrated handle on the ball which helps him create his own shots inside the three-point line.
