We got through another high school regular season and summer basketball. Heading into this new upcoming school year, there has been several players that have raised their stock over the past couple of months. This will be part two of three stock risers series of articles.
Raúl Stanford: 5’10 Shooting Guard “Highland” Class of 2024
Raúl Stanford played a big role for the Highland Hornets last season in his junior year. He was one of the five starters on the 4A State Championship team from a season ago. Raúl brought shooting, defense and leadership to this roster. He was the teams second best three-point shooter in terms of makes and the teams highest percentage shooter at 47%. Raúl was an underrated defender who never backed down from guarding the opposing team best guards. He does a good job staying in front of his matchup’s defensively and contests shots without fouling. Raúl is also one of the main vocal leaders you will hear constantly on the court communicating with his teammates. During this past summer, he has stayed busy competing in various camps and tournaments to stay ready for this upcoming year.
Jordi Rojo: 5’8 Point Guard “Belen” Class of 2024
Belen’s Point Guard Jordi Rojo helped the Eagles have an unexpected 2021-2022 season. Belen went into the 4A State Tournament as the 7th seed and made it all the way to the 4A State Semifinals. Jordi was a big reason why Belen was one quarter shy of the 4A State Championship game. He is a tough as nails point guard that just competes in very second of the ball game. Throughout this summer, Jordi has become more aggressive looking for his shot now that several players from last season’s roster has graduated. He does a good job balancing between being a playmaker and looking to create his own shot. Expect Jordi to have a breakout season for Belen High School next season during his junior year.
Micah Munoz Micah Munoz 6'3" | PF Albuquerque Prep | 2024 State NM : 6’3 Power Forward “West Mesa” Class of 2024
Micah Munoz Micah Munoz 6'3" | PF Albuquerque Prep | 2024 State NM just recently transferred from Cibola High School to West Mesa High School this past year. Throughout the summer seeing him in his first look with his new team, Micah has showed that he will play a major role for the West Mesa Mustangs competing for the 5A State Championship this upcoming season. He looked impressive in the summer showing he is a skilled big man around the paint and uses his size to his advantage. Micah has a nice touch around the rim, plays through the contact and often gets his share of “And One” opportunities. What separates Micah from other big men in his class, is his work ethic constantly working and improving his game in the gym. He is a player I’m excited to watch this season. Expect Micah Munoz Micah Munoz 6'3" | PF Albuquerque Prep | 2024 State NM to have a big season along with West Mesa High School.
