Battle of the Bigs 2024 Style 2.0
We opened the day up with a rematch of a previous contest from the live period in KC as the top two 2024 posts on the PHC Trey’Dez Green and Jason Jakstys tangled. They each had their moments. Jakstys led his team to a win with 13 points. His shot blocking defensively was phenomenal along with what he brings offensively as a rim runner, passer, spot up shooter, and skilled post moves on the block. He has the look of a mid-major prospect. Luke Kinkade is a lefty combo guard who was feeling it from distance in this one draining four of them for 12 points.
On the other side Trey’Dez Green was the star. The four man is a grown man at 6’8” with a physical and athletic body. He runs the floor with ease, can push off a defensive rebound on his own going coast to coast, and has a killer spin move on the interior. Went or 18 points. High-major all the way!
Flee Club vs Oklahoma Chaos 17U Features Sleepers
This game was a tight one throughout as both teams had inside/outside duos that carried them. Oklahoma Chaos had just a little too much as they won 80-78. Marquis Combs is a huge body inside that takes up space and has some skill. Good passer, crashes the glass, and can hit a 15 foot jumper. Went for 11 points. On the perimeter it was Michael Graham that caught our attention with how well he won off the dribble and scored in the paint for 15 points.
Flee Club out of Illinois was pushed inside by Marshall five man Joel Brown. He is going to see another nice bump his our next ranking update as the 6’7” center is a wide body that is light on his feet. He has good positioning down low and a feel for scoring on seals or hook shots. Very good area rebounder and blocks shots at a nice clip. Went for 16 points. Proviso East shooting guard Jaloni Johnson has a ton to like about his game. Silky smooth wing scorer that was excellent in transition with his speed and handles. Also has a sound pull up game from two and three. Went for 26 points.
Balance of Full Package 17U Too Much for Iowa Barnstormers in Rematch
These two matched up in a memorable live period contest to open up Indy back in April. They saw each other again on Saturday in the ATL and once again it was all Full Package as they got the win 63-48. It was tremendous balance for this squad. Rokas Castillo and Matas Castillo got others involved at the point. Early on sharp shooter Jake Fiegen hit several threes on his way to 12 points. Mark Nikolich-Wilson ran the show as a point-center at times with his passing while mixing in some floaters and crafty drives for 6 points. Libertyville power forward Aidyn Boone has had a nice weekend shooting the ball and playing physical in the paint which continued as he had 11 points. The Rolling Meadows forward duo also impressed as Foster Ogbonna had 8 points including a pair of threes. Their top performer was face up four man Tsvet Sotirov who can shoot it from distance, hit the offensive glass, and put it on the deck for 13 points. Stevenson wing David Sulnius provides a lot of intangibles and shooting.
Continue to be a huge fan of what Da’Shon Fisher brings to the table. Strong bodied wing that is powerful bullying his way to the rim on straight line takes and getting to the foul line. He had 14 points. Dallas Bear is a skilled power forward that can stretch the floor with his shooting off the catch or in pick/pop situations.
North Dakota Phenom 17U Trio of Commits Top Hoops 4 Health
The North Dakota Phenom group features three D1 commits who led them to a win over Hoops 4 Health 69-58. North Dakota commit Ryan Erikson had 20 points in the win as the skilled post was great around the hoop scoring on jump hooks, spin moves, and passed it very well. His future college teammate at North Dakota is Anthony Doppler who can shoot the rock from three or pulling up. Active defender that pushes and loves the float game. Combo guard had 13 points. North Dakota State commit Darik Dissette brings athleticism on the perimeter and the ability to throw down monster dunks along with connect from distance as he had 15 points.
It was another strong outing for New Trier’s Tyler Van Gorp. The 6’10” center has played the best basketball of his career in July and that continued with his assertiveness on the offensive end. He has always been a plus shot blocker which he showed, but it was his activity on the offensive glass and hook shot that shined in a 14 point performance. Sonny Williams is a scoring combo guard that loves to push in the open floor getting to the rim or throwing it to a teammate on the perimeter for a shot. Nick Andreano from Minooka has put himself on the map with his toughness and shot making.
Fears Drops 42
In Hoops 4 Health’s next game their star 2025 point guard Jeremiah Fears went off for 42 points! Against the Auburn Raptors the Joliet West point guard had it all working. He has unlimited range on his shot from way downtown. Let it fly from well beyond the arc with consistency. Quickness and speed to do major damage in transition. Also is a player that can finish around defenders or over them with floaters. Liked what we saw defensively as he was constantly pressuring opponents in both games we saw.
Colorado Titans 2023 Lead Guard Proves One to Track in Win Over Illinois Stars
The Colorado Titans Gold 17U captured a 54-44 win against the Illinois Stars. Aliou Diallo was outstanding for the Colorado squad. Smooth ball handler that wins off the dribble, is a crisp passer, and overall just makes winning plays. Smaller guard that can shoot it from three had 17 points.
The Illinois Stars got big first halves from Bryce Coleman (9 points) and Tre Davis (11 points).
Wisconsin Crusaders 17U Skill Impresses in Win Over Mac Irvin Fire
After not their best effort on Friday the Wisconsin Crusaders had an excellent showing across the board on Saturday in a win against the Mac Irvin Fire. The play of the game was a dunk from scoring guard Levi Birkholtz. Loves to attack with his burst and strength around the hoop as he had 15 points. Their forward combination also played well as Alex Sherwood had it flowing. The face up four stretched it to three multiple times, passed it well, and used a spin move on the block for 10 points. Ethan Heck is a inside/outside threat that can post up and also let it fly from three as he had 11 points.
The Mac Irvin Fire were led by St. Rita shooting guard Nashawn Holmes. The 2023 wing is a power scorer that takes it to the rim and crashes the offensive glass as he had 14 points.
Team GRIII 17U Trio Shines in Victory over Iowa Barnstormers
Next up was a Midwest battle of top PHC programs as Team GRIII knocked off the Iowa Barnstormers 17U 66-58. Ball State commit Mason Jones was outstanding in the win. Strong and mobile post that can shoot it spotting up and has mobility on the block. Went for 20 points in the victory. Their uncommitted 2023 wing duo played well off each other as Brandon Trilli and Cooper Farrall often found the other for buckets. Trilli had 11 points while Farrall went for 13 points.
This was one of the better outings we had seen from Barnstormers point guard Blaise Porter. The quick and dynamic lead guard notched 12 points in the defeat.
Highly Ranked Prospects Battle in PLUTO vs Chosen Few 17U
PLUTO battled fellow western program Chosen Few in a Colorado vs Nevada clash. Minnesota Gophers commit Kadyn Betts was the star as usual. Inside/outside forward that can knock down smooth pull ups from two or three along with putting it on deck for sweeping layups. Also posts up defenders as he had 19 points.
Chosen Few 2024 combo guard Alijah Adem is a creative ball handler that can shake his defender and likes to convert with floaters in the paint. Also can drop a three and got to the line at a nice clip. Went for 16 points. His backcourt mate Adonis Lafleur is another 2024 guard to track as he was straight money from three while also using his quickness off the dribble to get in the lane for scores.
OWE 17U Dominates Battle for Louisiana vs FIFA Elite
This was supposed to be a tight battle between two of the top independent programs in Louisiana. OWE took off early and ran away with this one over FIFA Elite 73-48. The OWE backcourt was stellar all game long. Chris Carpenter set the tone for them as the lefty floor general drained three after three while the 5’9” guard also wasn’t afraid to get in the paint for scoop shots. He had 12 points. Jamaria Clark is a 6’2” comb guard that got to the rim at will while also connecting on an array of deep threes for 21 points. Terrance James had a monster performance with a plethora of transition finishes none more impressive than one off the backboard from his teammate for a dunk. He had 13 points.
