Though the game has shifted to the three-point line, big men still have a lot of value and are needed to create cohesive teams. So here are some prospects that deserve some love for their work in the trenches.

[player_tooltip player_id="1159181" first="Trey’Dez" last="Green"] 6’7 PF/C

Green was easily the most athletic big I observed during the tournament. Green’s vertical explosion made him unstoppable on the glass, unguardable in transition, and a live lob/ poster threat anytime he’s around the basket. In addition, he shows nuance in the post with a solid fadeaway and has the potential to build up his repertoire. He ran the floor like a stallion and was one of the faster players despite being one of the largest on the court. Defensively his playmaking radius is elite. He can protect the rim from the weakside, meet the in-coming ball handlers at the apex, and recover if he’s beaten by step. As an excellent run/ jump athlete that could translate to the next level, his size, strength, and speed combination give him potential as a power five two-way slasher at the next level.

https://twitter.com/PHCircuit/status/1547319506061729792?s=20&t=14XnkVzmvgL7WaI7ow-esQ

[player_tooltip player_id="1050245" first="Ryan" last="Erikson"] 6’10 C ND Phenom

As one of the tournament’s more skilled bigs, Erikson is easily a next-level player. With size, skill, and a solid foundation of fundamentals, he was one of the bright spots at the center position. He commanded the post with patience, craftiness, and footwork. Erikson is fully equipped with back-to-the-basket moves and has the strength and touch to convert on most of his attempts. He’s also an excellent playmaker out the post that can find cutters and shooters if the defense tries to help off.

https://twitter.com/FreshCoastHoops/status/1540049058584313862?s=20&t=zqjAkrPEI5zIlPWNPDiYFQ

Tyler Van Gorp 6’10 C Hoops 4 Health

Gorp is big with next-level size and motor. His overall activity in the paint made him a key contributor. He did an excellent job of effecting shots near the rim without fouling. He also rebounded with urgency and was able to steal possessions by chasing boards all around the court. Offensively he played within his role on the offense, took high-quality shots, and converted on most of his attempts near the rim. Gorp also showed promise as a stretch five due to a solid perimeter stroke and comfort putting the ball down and getting to the rim.

https://twitter.com/TylerVanGorp/status/1533246014475444226?s=20&t=Cs7oyiOYoBMvbgdtevNZtw

Chet Kloss 6’6 PF Minnesota Chill

Kloss had a great overall skill set that makes him an asset on both sides of the ball. He used his size well when exploiting mismatches in the post but could also create his own shots against taller defenders down low. Kloss also stretched out the perimeter and provided space as a shooter from beyond the arc. In addition to his scoring, he was always willing to find open teammates and make the extra pass. On the defensive end, he showed determination and hustle. He seemed to always be in a position to make a play for rebounds, loose balls, and steals.

https://twitter.com/ChetKlosss/status/1527312657317240833?s=20&t=uSjS_G_bKSjWtX2Illt72w

[player_tooltip player_id="1273398" first="Cardez" last="Norman"] 6’7 C/PF OWE Basketball

Though undersized, Norman plays above his frame to provide toughness and grit for his team. He compensates for his lack of traditional size with solid athleticism and a defensive mindset. He shows excellent timing and verticality as a shot blocker. His presence in the interior affected drives and attempts at the rim at a significant rate. He also was a glass cleaner and provided extra possessions with his motor and positioning. On the offensive end he’s a big that can play above the rim, clean up misses around the basket, and be a vertical floor spacer.

https://twitter.com/Cardez_Norman/status/1542036630185431042?s=20&t=puxj2XdqwjU3T79xdgIhmQ
