This past weekend, McBride High School in Long Beach, CA played host to the Pangos All West Camp. The event was held over two days from July 1-2 and featured some of the top talent in California across all classes. With around 100 or so participants, it culminated with a top 50 game and a top 25 game. I was able to watch both games and here’s a look at some of the standouts I saw in the top 25 game.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="1310858" first="Zyier" last="Beverly"] - Washington Prep 2023

Fresh off an offer from New Mexico State, Beverly is shaping up to be one of the top wings in Southern California. I’ve seen him play before and what stands out to me is his versatile offensive game. He has the tools to play multiple positions in the frontcourt. He is a good shooter from midrange and he’s able to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim with good handles for his size. Strong defender on ball who uses his length to cut off drives and contest shots. Good rebounder too.

2. Will Smith - Bishop Montgomery 2023

Smith is a strong two guard. He finishes well in the paint off dribble penetration and he is a good ball-handler. He’s a consistent catch and shoot player from three-point range and if the defense runs him off the three-point line he’s able to put the ball on the floor. He can shoot off the dribble with little pull-up midrange jumpers. He uses his size and strength to grab rebounds on both ends.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="1434824" first="Jameson" last="Caruso"] - Beverly Hills 2023

Caruso is a point guard who gets better each time I’ve seen him play. He does a good job controlling the tempo of the game and he pushes the pace well in transition. He’s a good playmaker on the break, keeping his head up and constantly looking for open teammates. In the halfcourt he’s very quick off the dribble; gets past his defender and to the rim without using a screen. Able to find that balance between scoring/playmaking. Good catch and shoot three-point shooter.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="1502868" first="Devin" last="Ringer"] - Fairfax 2024

Ringer stood out to me as a good scoring point guard who also can balance scoring and playmaking. He’s a very good ball handler who can dribble under defensive pressure. He has a good shot and he’s able to knockdown the open three and the pull-up three in transition. He’s got a good off the dribble game and he can hit defenders with the 1-2 dribble pull-up jumper.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="1502835" first="Samuel" last="Galindo"] - Rancho Christian 2024

Galindo is a very mobile big man with good length and size. He’s a strong finisher at the rim. He runs the floor well, he has good hands and a soft touch around the rim. One of the main things though that stood out to me about him is his motor and energy on the glass. He’s a good rebounder in traffic and he doesn’t give up on the play. He keeps possessions alive tapping the ball back out to teammates or he grabs the board himself. Rebounds with two hands as well.
