Various Region Finals will be played in order to crown some champions with the Grit Region Finals taking place in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. Nearly 300 teams will compete between the 15u, 16u, and 17u age divisions at the Grit Region Finals. Before the action tips off at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday evening, let’s preview the upcoming action. We started by highlighting 10 prospects across the Grit Region that you should watch. Then, we looked at eight Indiana players to follow. Now, let’s dive into six under-the-radar prospects in Indiana.
Thomas Collins Thomas Collins 6'1" | SG Culver Academy | 2023 State IN (Culver Academy 2023/Team GRIII Black 17u): Collins is a good playmaker in the backcourt with the ability to penetrate the defense to either finish himself or pass off to a teammate. Good catch-and-shoot ability from the perimeter as well. He has had a good spring and summer on the Prep Hoops Circuit attracting a good amount of Division III interest.
Cameron Freeman (Brebeuf Jesuit 2023/JH1 IndyElite 17u): A strong spring and summer earned this 6’1″ guard an offer from Rhoades College and other small college interest. Freeman is very athletic, can create off of the bounce, and gets from end-to-end quickly when pushing it in transition. Has some dynamic playmaking ability when playing in space.
Shane Handlon Shane Handlon 6'4" | SG Southport | 2023 IN (Southport H.S. 2023/Circle City Shooters 17u): We wrote some about this 6’4″ shooter after a big game down in Atlanta last weekend with the Circle City Shooters. He missed the spring with an injury, but is back now and working to get himself on the radar of some college programs. Deep range, good size, and can make three-pointers at a high percentage.
Tyler Horton Tyler Horton 6'7" | C Warren Central | 2023 State IN (Warren Central H.S. 2023/INB Elite 17u): This 6’7″ big man will be one that small colleges will want to evaluate. Horton obviously has a big frame, but also has a soft touch around the basket and even out to the 12-15 foot range. He rebounds well, runs the floor, and rebounds his area. Good post defender as well. One to watch this weekend at the Prep Hoops Grit Region Finals.
Luke McBride Luke McBride 6'1" | PG Norwell | 2023 State IN (Norwell H.S. 2023/Team GRIII Elite 17u): McBride can flat out score the basketball. He plays alongside a lot of talent with Team GRIII Elite, but has proven at different times that he can score with any of them. His shooting ability both from the mid-range off of the dribble and from beyond the arc makes him a tough cover on the perimeter. Talented 6’0″ guard that can knock down shots.
Patrick Schott Patrick Schott 6'5" | PF Perry Meridian | 2023 State IN (Perry Meridian H.S. 2023/Indiana Elite Swish 17u): Strong 6’5″ forward that can stretch the floor out beyond the three-point line and finish around the basket. Schott has the physicality to play on the interior while possessing the skill level to play out on the perimeter some, especially as a catch-and-shoot threat. Good cutter when away from the ball. Definitely a name to know for Indiana Elite Swish.
