Continue ReadingSummer basketball has officially come to an end. For the rising senior class Sunday afternoon marked their last time competing on the “AAU” circuit. It also closed the final live evaluation period of the summer for college coaches. While there are plenty of camps and showcases in the month of August, things will be decidedly slower on the basketball front through the month of August. Before we start updating our prospect rankings, putting a bow on the summer, and previewing the upcoming high school season let’s take a look at some of the top individual performances that I saw from Indiana prospects on Sunday in Fort Wayne.
Chase Barnes (Fort Wayne Wayne H.S. 2025/OPS-Black 15u): It is hard to score 40 points in a game. However, Barnes made it look about as easy as possible on Sunday against a good 5Star team. The 6’1″ athletic guard shot it well from the perimeter, finished at a high rate around the rim, and got himself to the foul line. All-around outstanding playmaker who is one of the most talented prospects in Indiana’s 2025 class.
Chase Konieczny (South Bend St. Joseph H.S. 2025/Indy Heat 15u): The highly skilled wing went off for 32 points on Sunday afternoon in an impressive win against the Mid-Ohio Pumas Gold. Konieczny handles it really well as a 6’4″ guard, shot it very well from beyond the arc, and created for himself off of the bounce. Such a well-rounded offensive player.
Kellen Pickett (Blackhawk Christian 2025/Indy Heat 15u): If you aren’t aware of this 6’8″ forward you need to get yourself aquatinted because you’ll be hearing his name a lot over the next few years. Pickett can stretch the floor out to three-point range, handles it well for his size, and can protect the rim on the defensive end. High upside prospect. Had 22 points in Indy Heat’s win on Sunday.
Jaiyre Sampson (Fort Wayne Carroll H.S. 2025/Indy Heat Red 15u): Simpson put up 30 points but Indy Heat Red came up just a bit short against The Process on Sunday afternoon. He is an all-around explosive playmaker who can create off of the bounce for himself and his teammates. Very impressed with his ability to make shots off the dribble as well.
Khalyn Williams-Thomas (Concordia Lutheran 2025/Indy Heat Red 15u): This skilled guard put his playmaking skills on full display Sunday afternoon. Williams-Thomas has the ball on a string at all times, leads the break very well, and is a great passer. Impressed with his three-point shooting ability as well. Smooth looking shot. Makes everyone around him better. Scored 25 points in a hard fought loss to The Process.
Jacob Windy (Elkhart H.S. 2023/5Star-Windy 17u): Knocking in six three-pointers on the way to a team-high 22 points will certainly catch your attention. That is what Windy did at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning. He shot over 40% from beyond the arc all spring/summer long and will be one of the best pure shooters in northern Indiana this upcoming season. Great performance by him.
