Continue ReadingThe June high school live periods continued this past weekend with tons of events all over the country, and one of the biggest ones was in the DMV area where DMV Live took place at the famous DeMatha High School in Maryland. The event featured some of the top private schools from Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, and had hundreds of college coaches in attendance. We’ll have tons of content from the weekend, continuing with some of the 2024 standouts from MD.
Martin Somerville | 6’1” WG | Bishop McNamara
Somerville stepped up in a big way for McNamara this weekend, and the way he’s played this summer he could be a breakout player in the WCAC this year. The 6’1” lefty shot the ball very well from deep off the catch, he attacked closeouts and got in the lane to get to the rim where he finished or got the line often and he was scrappy getting loose balls and making plays on the defensive end. He has a knack for hitting timely shots and was very efficient throughout the weekend.
Caden Diggs Caden Diggs 6'7" | SF Bullis | 2024 State #125 Nation MD | 6’6” WF | Bullis
Diggs continues to boost his stock as he comes away from both sessions with a handful of new offers, and with him transferring to Bullis he’s the perfect addition as they needed size and athleticism on the wing. At 6’6” he’s a naturally explosive athlete who has good speed in the open floor and can play above the rim relatively easily, he’s a big time defender who uses his length to get deflections and he can guard multiple positions and rebounds well on both ends of the floor. He has room to continue to develop on his perimeter skillset but he showed he can put it on the deck in straight lines and can catch and shoot from deep efficiently.
Tyonne Farrell | 6’6” PF | Mount St. Joe’s
Farrell is going to be one of the breakout players in the BCL this year and after a good Session 1 he ramped it up to another level in Session 2. He plays with fantastic energy as he runs the floor hard and hits the glass relentlessly, he is an explosive athlete with good length that can play above the rim and he does all of the dirty work to help his team win. He’s still raw and has a lot of room to improve on his skillset as far as shooting and handling the ball but he showed he doesn’t need the ball to make a big impact on the game.
Scottie Hubbard Scottie Hubbard 6'5" | SG Jackson-Reed | 2024 State MD | 6’4” WG | St. Andrew’s
Hubbard is a very intriguing prospect in the 2024 class as he has a mix of physical tools and a budding skillset that translate to the next level well. He already has a strong frame and can play through contact off the bounce, he’s a good athlete who can get downhill and finish at and above the rim and he showed the ability to create and make shots from multiple levels off the bounce. He’s a very impressive player now but as he continues to develop he could take another leap in the next few years.
Malcolm Thomas Malcolm Thomas 6'8" | PF DeMatha | 2024 State #122 Nation MD | 6’8” C | DeMatha
Thomas is one of the most underrated players in the DMV and he has so much potential moving forward with his athleticism and high motor he plays with. He’s still a little raw but he can catch and finish and catch lobs easily, he can post and face up and put it on the deck and get to the rim in limited dribbles and he’s a very good shot blocker and rebounder. He knows his game and is very efficient as he gets most of his points in the paint, and if he can develop some kind of perimeter skillset his recruitment would take off moving forward.
Luke Bamgboye Luke Bamgboye 6'10" | C AZ Compass Prep | 2024 State #110 Nation AZ | 6’10” C | Mt. Carmel
There weren’t many prospects in the event that have the ceiling that Bamgboye has, as he is already an elite rim protector and he has so much room to continue to get better moving forward. He has very long arms and great timing as a shot blocker whether it’s heads up in the post or coming help side, he has soft touch with good range on his jump shot and he can finish above the rim on cuts and dump offs. He still has tons of room to get better and needs to get stronger but he has a lot of tools already that make him one of the top bigs in the DMV.
