However, in an effort to bring the best, most complete, coverage possible I also ran over to Best Choice Fieldhouse for a bit on both Saturday and Sunday to check out some of the Indiana-based teams taking part in the Circle City Shootout. Here are some of the top stock-risers from that tournament.
Nate Matelic Nate Matelic 6'5" | SG Speedway | 2023 State IN (Speedway H.S. 2023/Indiana Central 17u): I’ve long been pretty high on this bigger guard, but may opinion was solidified on Sunday. Matelic is going to be a great pickup for a small college at the next level. He is a great jump shooter who has the ability to get his shot off at anytime due to his elevation and standing 6’4″-6’5″. Scored 18 points in the game I watched also knocking down a couple from beyond the arc.
Chris Rhoades (Fishers H.S. 2023/Indiana Elite Team Indiana 17u): This under-the-radar recruit really stood out on Saturday in a big blowout victory for Team Indiana. You should see Rhoades get minutes this season for Fishers and make a real name for himself as a post presence. At 6’7″ with a very strong frame, he certainly has the size to be a force in the paint. He displayed good hands, footwork, and finishing ability around the rim. Worth a look for small colleges in need of a big man.
Alex Ross (Terre Haute North H.S. 2023/DistinXion Black 17u): I didn’t get to see a ton of DistinXion’s semifinal game, but anytime I did look over it seemed like Ross was knocking in a three-pointer. After checking the box score at half time, Alex had connected on a total of five triples already. Between himself and his twin brother Isaac the duo finished with 11 three-pointers on the game. They have some serious catch-and-shoot ability.
Gavin Wisley Gavin Wisley 6'8" | PF Bloomington South | 2023 State IN (Bloomington H.S. South 2023/Indiana Central 17u): Anytime you come across a 6’7″-6’8″ prospect who can shoot it at the level that Wisley does it is going to catch your attention. When I made it over to watch him play on Sunday afternoon he absolutely lit it up from beyond the arc connecting on four three-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points in a close loss to Shining Stars. Wisley really should have had five three-pointers if it weren’t for a terrible travel call as he was running into a transition three on the wing. Elite shooter who also had a couple of impressive blocks defensively at the rim.
Wyatt Zellers Wyatt Zellers 6'9" | PF Scottsburg | 2024 State IN (Scottsburg H.S. 2024/Indiana Elite Team Indiana 16u): Zellers was absolutely in the game I watched on Saturday finishing with 25 points on 10-12 shooting from the field including a handful of three-pointers. The 6’8″ left-hander has a smooth stroke at his size and a well-around offensive game to go along with it. Really intriguing “stretch-4” type of prospect. Was good all weekend long helping lead Team Indiana to the 16u title.
