All of Friday and half of Saturday PH NorCal was at Cali-Live for July’s first live period in Irvine, CA. The event was billed as a top event for Independent Grassroots Programs. The gym had plenty of scouts, and college coaches from all across the West Coast. Teams from NorCal, SoCal, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Colorado, all competed at a high level. NorCal was well represented. Here’s some of the NorCal Prospects who helped themselves in front of College Coaches while we were there.

[player_tooltip player_id="1115391" first="Jalen" last="Brown"] 6’2 2023 PG of Lakeshow 17U Fuca, Modesto Christian HS

Brown who’ll play at Modesto Christian was clearly the top prospect from NorCal in the 2023 class in our opinion. He excelled in all phases of the game. His stamina was phenomenal. His superb ballhandling, athleticism, and playmaking skills were on display. He’s a 3 level scorer, finishes with either hand around the basket. He defended at a high level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1380769" first="Connor" last="Sevilla"] 6’0 2023 PG of Infinite 17U Gold, Dougherty Valley HS

Sevilla was consistent and highly effective as the lead guard on this team. He was the conductor of the orchestra. He made high level decisions with the ball in his hands, with limited mistakes. He understands his role, and is willing to make a concerted effort to involve teammates early and often. Don’t be mislead he can score in multiple ways.

[player_tooltip player_id="1266053" first="Mehki" last="Thomas"] 6’5 2023 W/SF of Lakeshow 17 Fuca, Dublin HS.

Thomas performed well in front of college coaches. He’s bigger, stronger and showed a willingness to be a physical player. (work in the weight room is paying off). He played through the physical parts of the game. His rebounding in traffic, going up strong off two feet, getting the and one. He attacked the rim hard in transition knowing the bump was coming. He hit the mid-range jumper, took a few charges.

Austin Harris 6’5 2023 SG of Piedmont HS.

We wrote about AJ a week ago. He’s still doing the same things, producing in some way on the court. This time against a higher level of competition with college coaches watching. No flash, not a lot of foot speed. He’s a versatile big guard with vision and excellent passing skills, a strong body to protect the ball, plays with balance. When the 3’s not dropping, he generates points in other ways. He knows how to make adjustments to his game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1497982" first="Lloyd" last="French"] 6’4 2023 SG of Stockton Soldiers 17U, Downey HS

French just plays better and better when we see him. He’s a productive big guard. He hits the 3ptr, and mid-range with some consistency. He moves well left and right off the dribble. He’s underrated as a passer, finding cutters, and shooters while handling the ball up top regularly, and in transition. He’s a good rebounding guard, has footspeed, and strength to defend in the open court. He picked up his first offer.

[player_tooltip player_id="1114844" first="Aden" last="Curry"] 6’5 2023 W/F of Arsenal 17U Elite, Santa Cruz HS.

He’s starting to show he can knock down the 3ptr in transition, and hit it spotting up in the corner with some regularity. He’s a solid body who’ll go after rebounds, score, and handle the physical play that goes inside. He has an improved skill set away from the basket, his handling and passing were good.

Other 2023 Standouts
[player_tooltip player_id="1115058" first="Jake" last="Davis"] 6’2 2023 SG Infinite 17 Gold, Las Lomas HS
Ahmaree Muhammed 5’10 2023 PG of Arsenal 17 Elite, Oakland Tech HS
[player_tooltip player_id="1508056" first="Gavin" last="Hamill"] 6’4 2023 SG of Rampage National, Vacaville HS.
