Continue ReadingBrawl For The Ball is one of the most notable grassroots events in Michigan. It will feature a lot of local teams and in state talent at all levels. College coaches will certainly be tuned in to see what the state of Michigan has to offer from all different classes. In this article I’ll give fans, coaches, and scouts 5 players to watch at Brawl For The Ball. These are all players that are either under the radar or in my opinion deserve more press and could be really good finds for a program at the next level.
Leroy Blyden Jr. (2025, PG, REACH Legends 2025, UD Jesuit)
Blyden Jr. is an elite young talent that, in my opinion, has D1 potential. He’s an athletic lead guard that can score and facilitate with equal effectiveness. Blyden Jr. can draw the defense and then find open cutters and shooters. He’s a must see elite talent.
Andrew Brown Andrew Brown 6'0" | SF Three Rivers | 2023 State MI Jr. (2023, CG, Grand Rapids Thunder, Three Rivers)
Brown is a rising talent that can play effectively on or off the ball. He attacks the lane off the bounce and is a playmaker when he gets there. Brown is a creative finisher and really stands out finishing on the left side of the rim.
Tarren Calvert Tarren Calvert 5'11" | CG Wyoming | 2025 State MI (2025, CG, B3 Athletics, Wyoming)
Calvert is an exciting young shooter. He’s very confident and smooth with his jumper. Calvert looks very comfortable with a catch and shoot. He can catch the ball anywhere and get it to his shooting pocket smoothly and without hesitation.
Brennan McKenzie Brennan McKenzie 6'0" | PG Adrian | 2023 FL (2023, PG, Midwest Stampede, Adrian)
McKenzie could be a real steal. He’s a leader in both demeanor and in his play. He’s a solid primary ball handler that gets the ball to it’s spots. McKenzie can get hot with his jumper and has been seen this grassroots season throwing up a 30 plus point game.
Peyton TerMeer Peyton TerMeer 6'2" | CG Corunna | 2023 State MI (2023, CG, Detroit Unified Adidas Gold 17u, Corunna)
TerMeer should be considered a must see for some college coaches. He’s been playing very good basketball this summer and is very deserving of some looks. If a college coach wants a shooter that carries toughness and grit, they can start with TerMeer.
