Most of the teams were from the West Coast, NorCal, SoCal, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington all had representation. Here are some of the prospects in the 2024 class from NorCal that caught our attention with their play.
Will Ambidge Will Ambidge 6'5" | SF San Ramon Valley | 2024 State CA-N 6’6 2024 W/F Lakeshow 16 Shaughnessy, San Ramon Valley HS
He’s shown steady improvements heading into July. He’s long, deceptively strong, and runs the court. He’s active in and around the paint area, going after rebounds, defending, and scoring. He has good length, and footwork to guard on the perimeter as well. He’s improved his ball handling in open court, and he’s starting to hit the corner 3ptr.
Lucien Bailey 6’6 2024 W/F of The Academy, El Cerritos HS
Bailey has good upside. He’s a big body prospect with a mixture of skills to effect the game 15ft and in. He’s hard to guard when he sets up camp in the post area, using strength movements to finish on either side of the rim. He has a mid-post game where he uses his dribble, and strength to continue forward to the rim. He can put it on the floor to get to the paint. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
KJ Ramey KJ Ramey 6'2" | SG Laguna Creek | 2024 State CA-N 6’2 2024 SG of CTB 16U, Laguna Creek HS
A quality guard with a good set of skills for the position. He has good handles, and a burst to go get his shot off the dribble, whether he’s going all the way or pulling up for a jumper. He has a good 3pt shot coming from the baseline or coming down in transition. He’s an excellent defender when he’s locked in. He has lengthy arms and that quick twitch making it hard to get by him.
Marcel Longmire Marcel Longmire 6'4" | SF Jesse Bethel | 2024 State CA-N 6’4 W/F 2024 of Team Rampage National 16, Armijo HS
He’s a solid body prospect with a long wingspan. He has a decent set of ball handling skills that allows him to handle in the half court, push it in transition, and beat his man off the dribble at times, he takes it strong along the baseline. He handles up top on occasion with solid passing, he can hit the short jumper, get his share of rebounds, and defend multiple positions. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
Addarion Strauthers 6’5 2024 W/F of CTB 16U, Laguna Creek HS
He’s an athletic 2 sport player (Football) that runs and jumps pretty good. He has good size and strength to be an effective scorer in the post when he’s in there. He has good enough handles to create his own opportunities away from the basket. He seems to excel in transition filling lanes and looking to finish with dunks. We’ll see him again.
Mason Faatuai 6’9 2024 Center of Seaside’s Finest 16, Seaside HS
It was our first look at the big man. He’s a bit raw right now, but shows a willingness to learn and adjust in game. He has a nice frame to add bulk. He’s got a long wingspan, and can effect shots in the paint. His arms, and hand are up and away from his body. He worked from the high post, setting screens, and passing before heading down closer to the rim, where he had some success scoring in the post. He did shoot the paint jumper. He’s on The Wright’s Watch List.
Kentrell Kelly Kentrell Kelly 6'5" | SF Monterey Trail | 2024 State CA-N 6’6 2024 F/PF of Stockton Soldiers 17U, Monterey Trail HS.
He’s a solid body player, with good strength, and some tools to be an effective player in and around the post area. He has the strength and body to defend the paint area. He has good bounce, and reactions going after rebounds, he’ll score inside when he’s locked in, he’s strong on the put back, has a paint jumper, and attacks well along the baseline. We’ll see more of him.
Gabriel Williams 6’5 PF of The Academy, Mountain House HS
He’s a big body that can have some effect in the post. He goes straight up with both arms extended to distract shooters in the paint. He works well maneuvering to get offensive rebounds. He works from the high post, has a consistent paint jumper, can hit the mid-range shot. He’s a target on the block with a good touch around the rim. He’s on the Wright’s Watch List.
