With the updated 2023 rankings in VA, we will have tons of new content over the next few weeks including new names, biggest stockrisers and positional breakdowns as well. We get started with a look at part two of the biggest risers from the last rankings update, looking at five guys who have rose through their play in the new rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id="962810" first="Gibraltar" last="Coleman"] | 6’6” PF | Flint Hill

Previous Rank: #88

Current Rank: #44

Coleman has steadily moved up the rankings and takes a big leap this year as he has consistently produced at a high level and continues to get better. He’s a walking mismatch as he has good size and strength to bang in the post, he can step out and put it on the deck and knock down shots from all three levels and he rebounds well too.

Nasir Coleman | 5’11” PG | Patriot

Previous Rank: #92

Current Rank: #67

Coleman was a breakout player on a Patriot team that had a historic season before falling in the state semifinals, and he steadily rose to be considered one of the top point guards in the Nova area. He’s a tough competitor who brings it on both ends of the floor, he’s quick off the bounce and gets in the lane where he can make plays and finish at the rim, he has floor general intangibles and he picks his spots and can score it efficiently while also being able to take over the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="999632" first="Isaiah" last="Shaw"] | 6’5” PF | Bishop O’Connell

Previous Rank: #114

Current Rank: #75

Shaw was a standout at North Stafford in Fredericksburg before transferring to Bishop O’Connell last year where he came off the bench behind a number of upperclassmen, but now he’s ready for his chance to shine right as the live period is about to begin. He’s a natural athlete with good strength and the ability to guard multiple positions, he’s a mismatch offensively as he can play inside-out and he plays much bigger than his 6’5” frame would suggest.

[player_tooltip player_id="999657" first="Matin" last="Perdue"] | 6’4” SF | Broad Run

Previous Rank: #111

Current Rank: #83

Perdue as steadily been one of the top shooters in the Nova area over the last few years and he took another leap his junior year at Broad Run. He’s a strong wing with good size to be able to get his shot off, he moves off the ball to get open and runs to spots where he can set his feet quickly, he has deep range and he’s rounded out his game to be able to create his own shot better as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1403962" first="David" last="King"] | 6’4” PF | Hayfield

Previous Rank: #110

Current Rank: #99

King continues to show that he may not be the tallest, most athletic or conventional player, but the fact is he showed he’s one of the most consistent producers in the state while helping lead Hayfield to a state championship. He’s so active when he’s on the floor as he plays with a terrific motor on both ends of the floor, he’s always around the basketball and around the rim to follow up, he moves well in the post to get open when guards are penetrating and he finishes everything around the rim and through traffic.
