The University of Saint Katherine/ Gamepoint facility played host to The Warm Up, a three-day showcase hosted by Gamepoint and the Swish Pro-Am.

The event yielded some solid action, including one of the most competitive summer games I’ve seen in a while, El Camino’s thrilling win over Carlsbad to cap Saturday Action.

I’ll have a couple of reports from the event, starting with the top prospects from the games I saw (I split time between The Warm Up and the second session of SDSU Team Camp).

Chase Newman, 6-5 2024 W, Ramona

Newman scored 40 points in a blowout win over Mt Carmel, knocking down 8 threes in the process. The wing has great size and solid length and has a quick-trigger release, and is almost automatic from the corners. While he’s not a dynamic ball handler, he handles it well enough to score on straight-line drives with his dominant hand. Defensively, he uses his length to play in the passing lanes and he does a solid job rebounding the basketball. He’s a true sleeper in Southern California’s rising junior class.

Jake Hall, 6-3 2025 G, Carlsbad

Hall had a solid pair of games on Saturday in a win over Ramona and a narrow loss to El Camino. In the Ramona game, his defense against the Bulldogs standout guard [player_tooltip player_id="1437035" first="Dalton" last="Norvell"] was impressive, as he forced him into difficult stops and hand one highlight moment where he stripped Norvell to spring a fast break. As we know, Hall is a gifted scorer, but it’s the defensive improvement that will boost his stock moving forward.

Pe’a Misaalefua, 6-2 2023 G, El Camino

Misaalefua was very impressive in the Wildcats blowout wins over Bishop’s and Carlsbad. He’s always been a unique "basketball player," a point guard’s IQ trapped in a lineman’s body, but he’s gotten in better shape and has improved his ball security, defensive effort and ability to defend on the perimeter. He had some huge scores down the stretch, scoring through contact or drawing fouls to get to the line, keying a big run that turned an 8-point deficit into a 5-point win without the team’s best player, Euan Davis.

[player_tooltip player_id="994937" first="Cyprian" last="Hyde"], 6-10 2023 C, Vista

Hyde’s a polarizing prospect for college coaches, but this weekend gave him a chance to showcase some of his strengths. He arrived from the Cal Baptist elite camp and imposed his well on Temecula Valley, scoring in the paint, finishing forcefully above the rim and showing excellent effort on the offensive and defensive glass.

Treyshawn Degrate, 5-9 2025 G, San Diego

Degrate came up big for the Cavers in a Friday night win over Bishop’s and did it on both ends. He showed improved burst in the half court and did a good job getting into the paint and creating for his teammates. His ability to turn over the Knights guards allowed the Cavers to get into transition and turn the game into a blowout.
