The collection of talent in the gym is exceptional and includes many of the nation’s top prospects in addition to a handful of California-based prospects that we have seen at length over the last few years. Below are some standout performers from Sunday night’s action on Court 1 and Court 2.
Isaiah Elohim, Sierra Canyon – Elohim, who is one of the best 2024 prospects in the country, made sure to show everyone why he is that highly-regarded with a dazzling scoring display from the mid-range level and finishing around the basket. The 6-foot-5 guard/wing knows how to get to his spots 15-feet away from the basket, stop, elevate on balance, and knock down jumpers over extended hands trying to contest. Elohim also showed great blow-by ability out of the triple threat and was strong with the ball when finishing in traffic.
Jeremy Fears Jeremy Fears 6'1" | PG La Lumiere | 2023 GA , La Lumiere (IN) – The 6-foot-2 Michigan State-commit was locked in to his floor general role from the outset. Fears is a gifted passer with elite vision and a high basketball IQ to go along with his natural feel for the game and willingness to create for teammates. In a setting that often breeds over dribbling, bad shot taking and forced offensive actions, the senior-to-be did a nice job of letting the game come to him while making sure to get his teammates involved and in a rhythm. The most impressive part of Fears’ game was his advance passing to bigs, wings and guards running in transition.
Xavier Booker Xavier Booker 6'11" | PF Cathedral | 2023 State #4 Nation IN , Cathedral (IN) – Booker might have been the most impressive big man prospect on the opening night. At 6-feet-11 with a long and wiry frame, the Indiana-native flashed an advanced skill-set and feel for the game. Booker, a lefty, was most effective in pick-and-pop action where his footwork, soft hands and fluid shooting mechanics allowed him to knock down open catch-and-shoot triples. Booker also made his presence felt in transition, out-running and out-working his opponent to earn easy buckets off of rim-runs. The class of 2023 forward/center has a unique combination of size, length, fluid athleticism and inside-out touch.
Pharaoh Compton, AZ Compass Prep – Compton was what i like to refer to as the “dirty work” guy, but work that is necessary to winning basketball. The 6-foot-7 forward rising junior is of the “power” variety of player as evidenced from his handful of rim-rattling dunks and downhill drives and finishes through traffic. Compton was one of few players who stood out on the defensive end of the floor as he collected six blocked shots (by my unofficial count) and proved to be a physical defensive rebounder.
Jahseem Felton Jahseem Felton 6'5" | CG Combine Academy (NC) | 2024 State #189 Nation NC , Gaston Christian (NC) – Felton is a power wing whose strength, balance and downhill speed made him a tough cover in the transition setting. The 6-foot-5 rising junior wing got to the basket at-will and finished through contact and above the rim, but part of the reason why Felton was so impressive was the fact that he didn’t force tough interior shots and looked to drive and kick when the help-side defender rotated over. Felton showed his own ability to knock down catch-and-shoot three-pointer.
