More than 140 of the best high school programs across the southeast came together outside of Atlanta this weekend for the NHSBCA Southeast Regional. Lots of talent was on display and college coaches gathered in numbers for the last live period of June. Here are a couple of forwards that stood out to me this weekend and will likely see a jump in their recruiting.

2024 6’6 F [player_tooltip player_id="1091939" first="Chase" last="McCarty"] - Westminster Christian (AL)

[player_tooltip player_id="1091939" first="Chase" last="McCarty"] was merely unstoppable this weekend, getting it done in every way possible. At 6’6, McCarty uses his size and length to attack the rim and finish over smaller defenders. His outside shot looked effortless and he knocked it down several times with no hesitation. Defensively, McCarty is a tenacious on-ball defender. Without a doubt, McCarty is a high-major guy and his list should continue to grow.

2023 6’10 C Keinan McFarlande - Denmark (GA)

McFarlande immediately caught my eye upon taking the floor because of his impressive size and frame. He certainly backed it up with his play, protecting the rim and controlling the paint all weekend. McFarlande also stepped out and knocked down a couple of 15-footers, proving to be a capable shooter. McFarlande has tremendous upside and is certainly one of Georgia’s most underrated bigs.

2023 6’8 F [player_tooltip player_id="1158778" first="Collin" last="Kuhl"] - Holly Springs (NC)

[player_tooltip player_id="1158778" first="Collin" last="Kuhl"] was one of my favorite players to watch over the weekend. He’s a long, athletic forward that plays with a high IQ and great feel for the game. Kuhl runs the floor extremely well and that’s where he’s most dangerous. He poses a lob threat and positions himself well for easy buckets in transition. Kuhl also gets off the floor extremely quickly which gives him an advantage on the boards and he was able to convert many second-chance opportunities.

2023 6’10 F/C [player_tooltip player_id="709236" first="Jayden" last="Hastings"] - OCP (FL)

[player_tooltip player_id="709236" first="Jayden" last="Hastings"] was an absolute workhorse for OCP over the weekend, impacting the game in a variety of ways. He’s a long, athletic big that plays with a ton of energy. It seemed as if every loose ball or rebound ended up in Hastings’ hands. Against Wheeler, Hastings held Arrington Paige to a respective 7 points and showed off his rim-protecting abilities, tallying multiple blocks. Hastings should be hearing from several schools after having a big weekend in Cartersville.

2023 6’8 C [player_tooltip player_id="1059718" first="Darion" last="Rivers"] - West Charlotte (NC)

[player_tooltip player_id="1059718" first="Darion" last="Rivers"] was very effective in his role this weekend for West Charlotte. Rivers is 6’8 and has a wide frame, making him hard to move down low for opposing bigs. He’s an excellent defender, both in the high post and on the block and contests everything. Offensively, Rivers has good hands and a nice touch around the rim. Against Denmark, he hit the game-winning shot over his 6’10 defender from a few feet out.
