FGCU Team Camp Standouts Day 1

<p>Took this weekend to check out some of the top high school programs in the state of Florida, where they all came to clash in true pre-season fashion at the Florida Gulf Coast Univ. team camp. Great experience watching some known prospects continue to raise their stock and new players put their names on the radar. Here are some of the top players I watched from day 1 of the camp.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>6’3 George Sterr 2024 Archbishop McCarthy</strong></p> <p>This Archbishop McCarthy stand-out led his team in scoring during two of the outings that I watched him play.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/goofball.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1483471" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/goofball-233x300.jpg" alt="" width="233" height="300" /></a></p> <p>Sterr plays with an absolute chip on his shoulder. A ferocious slasher he was getting to the rim at will, and finishing on both sides above much larger defenders.  He rebounds well and played great transition defense. </p> <p><strong>6’5 Anthony Edouard 2023 Hallandale </strong></p> <p>Edouard dominated the boards for his team and capped off this weekend with some monster dunks.  Hallandale’s 6’5 guard played with great pace and showed flashes of a great midrange pull-up game.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/Time-to-waste.png"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1483478" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/Time-to-waste-260x300.png" alt="" width="260" height="300" /></a></p> <p>Where he really shines is when he’s attacking the rim. Anthony is fearless and was able to finish with contact several times. </p> <p><strong>6’9 [player_tooltip player_id="1060175" first="AJ" last="Pierre-Jerome"]  2023 NSU </strong></p> <p>AJ was without question the most talented big man in the building this weekend.  Rim protector, shot blocker, paint presence there are many words that could describe this kids game. But honestly, just one fits the bill, dominant!</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/big-guy.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1483491" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/big-guy-228x300.jpg" alt="" width="228" height="300" /></a></p> <p>While I didn’t see it this weekend, the 6’9 rising senior also has the ability to stretch the floor and shoot the 3. I expect a big senior season from Pierre-Jerome. </p> <p><strong>6’3 Navon Shabazz 2026 NSU </strong></p> <p>The lone freshman prospect that I watched shined bright on a stacked NSU. Shabazz was a complete guard.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/young-buck.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-1483503" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/06/young-buck-225x300.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="300" /></a></p> <p>He demonstrated elite handles, was one of the better shooters at the camp and was able to get to the basket finishing some tough lays, even watched him catch a dunk. This season he could easily make a case for one of the top 2026 guards in the state of Florida. I’ll continue to keep my eye on his journey. </p>
