There was tons of talent in both the 17U and 16U division, and we’ll take a look at them starting with part four featuring some of the top 2024 prospects in attendance.
Ben Nacey Ben Nacey 6'9" | PF Cox | 2024 State VA | 6’8” C | Wave Basketball Club 16U 2024
Nacey looks like he could be the breakout player in the Beach area this upcoming season, as he not only has grown about 3 inches over the past few years but he has improved quite a bit as well. The 6’8” big man does a great job burying guys deep in the post and using his body to shield and get position on entry passes, he can finish around the rim through traffic and with both hands and he eats on the offensive glass and gets second chance opportunities. He played with a good motor and was very productive as walking double-double in both of their games.
Jason Penn | 5’11” PG | NOVA Cavs 16U 2024
Penn is the floor general for this talented Cavs 16U team that had a very good showing, and it all started with his ability to make plays and touch the paint at will. The 511” guard has a lightning quick first step and is shifty off the bounce, he has good body control and finishes well around the rim with both hands and he has good feel and vision as a playmaker. He sets the tone on both ends of the floor and makes winning plays for his group.
Miles Franklin | 6’4” WF | NOVA Cavs 16U 2024
Franklin is possibly the player with the most upside on this Cavs team, as the 6’4” wing is a big time athlete who plays on both ends of the floor and brings great energy to his team. He thrives in transition with his explosive finishing ability and played above the rim, he’s a good helpside defender who can elevate and block shots and he showed he can create off the bounce as well. He’s going to be a sleeper in the NOVA area who could blow up as he continues to improve.
Travis Hamilton | 5’10” PG | Dreamchasers 16U 2024
The younger bother of recent Richmond commit Trevor Smith Trevor Smith 5'11" | PG Woodside | 2023 State #267 Nation VA , Hunter is starting to come into his own and had a great showing against Loaded 16U where he scored 23 points showing an array of shot making ability. He is quick off the bounce and knows how to create space, he can hit tough shots from multiple levels over bigger defenders and he is unselfish and can make plays for others as well. He had a great showing and is one of the more underrated guards in the Peninsula area,
Jordan Watlington | 6’4” WF | Dreamchasers 16U 2024
Watlington showed flashes as a young energy player for a talented Menchville squad this season, but now he showed at the CBG event that he has more to his game than he was able to show. He’s a long and athletic wing that plays with a good motor on both ends of the floor, he’s surprisingly good on the ball where he can get in the lane and make plays for himself and others and he is a versatile defender who can guard and play multiple positions. He contributed across the board and made winning plays for his team regularly.
