Tornabane is the top-ranked newcomer in the 2023 rankings update, checking in at #28 following a strong state tournament and excellent start to the spring with Pure Prep. A 6-7 stretch-4 who is a knockdown shooter, he looks like the ideal modern big man for a Division II or NAIA program. He’s a high-level shot blocker with excellent instincts, a fantastic perimeter shooter, and despite being thin, he’s a really tough player who isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint.
Caden Dewey Caden Dewey 6'10" | C North Scott | 2023 IA (North Scott) [66]
Dewey moved to Iowa from Colorado before his junior season. This 6-10 big man is oozing with potential. A long and mobile big with good hands and touch around the rim, he showed some potential to stretch the floor, and while he didn’t show much as a shot-blocker last season, his size in the paint makes him a valuable defender.
Ian Bettis Ian Bettis 6'5" | PF Linn-Mar | 2023 State IA (Linn-Mar) [93]
A long and lanky forward who runs the floor hard and crashes the glass on both ends, Bettis has the mobility and size to be an impact defender. He has solid footwork and touch around the rim with either hand and has a little bit of a face-up game as well.
Luke Klostermann Luke Klostermann 6'4" | PF Assumption | 2023 State IA (Assumption) [100]
Klostermann is an undersized 6-3 power forward, but he’s one of those “brings his hard hat” type players who loves to play with physicality, and his relentless, non-stop motor makes him really difficult to contain. He’s a great rebounder and capable playmaker with the ball in his hands.
Nolan Mosier Nolan Mosier 6'6" | PF Davenport North | 2023 State IA (Davenport North) [162]
Mosier is a physical 6-6 forward who played in just seven games last season for the Wildcats, but he was very productive, averaging 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds a game. He showed some ability to stretch the floor, shooting over 36% from behind the arc and 90% at the line.
Tytan Bowers Tytan Bowers 6'8" | C Alburnett | 2023 State IA (Alburnett) [179]
Bowers is very raw, but he’s 6-8 and is a fairly good athlete who could potentially be a rim-runner for a Division III program down the line. You can’t teach height, and Bowers has plenty of it. He came off the bench to average 4.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and nearly a block a game for the Pirates last season.
Blake Feuring Blake Feuring 6'2" | PF Winterset | 2023 State IA (Winterset) [183]
Like Klostermann, Feuring is undersized, listed at just 6-2, but he plays hard on both ends of the floor and makes a major impact. A versatile scorer who can step out and stretch the floor or score on the block, he’s also good on the offensive glass.
Ryan Willman Ryan Willman 6'5" | PF St. Mary's, Remsen | 2023 State IA (Remsen, St. Mary’s) [201]
Willman is a 6-5 forward who is highly efficient, shooting nearly 62% from the floor as a junior as part of a balanced and deep Hawks attack. He’s a versatile defender who can switch and protect the rim.
Cole Lipper Cole Lipper 6'4" | PF Mediapolis | 2023 State IA (Mediapolis) [234]
A big and physical 6-5 forward, Lipper does an excellent job using his broad shoulders to help establish early post position and bury his defender. He has good hands and touch around the bucket, finishing efficiently with either hand.
Casey O’Donnell Casey O’Donnell 6'4" | PF Wapsie Valley | 2023 State IA (Wapsie Valley) [244]
A 6-3 forward who can play a little bit both inside and out, O’Donnell is a capable perimeter shooter but is better when he’s operating inside the arc and using his size to finish around the bucket. He rebounds well on both ends of the floor.
