A year removed from an outstanding and competitive 2022 boys basketball season, this years’ campaign looks to be just as exciting. There is a handful of great talent across the state this year. Here are a few players to keep an eye on in the 3A conference as the summer league begins and the fall season rolls around.

[player_tooltip player_id="923078" first="Jaxon" last="Dines"] / 5’10 - G / Homedale HS, 2023

Dines is as fearless as it gets. The crafty play-maker loves to take on contact and has no problem scoring from anywhere on the court. He can be efficient driving into the paint or coming off of a high screen and knocking down a jumper from 16. A player like Dines is one you would want to quarterback your team. The senior guard keeps his teammates involved and his versatility in all phases of his game is intriguing. Dines led his team in points, assists and steals last season and Homedale is expecting just as heavy of production this year. Keep an eye on Dines and the Trojans as both expect to make a statement in 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id="1170713" first="Kolby" last="Luna"]/ 6’2 - G / Kellogg HS, 2023

Luna prizes himself on being a force on both ends of the floor. He has no problem stepping up to guard the opposing teams’ best player all the while putting on a clinic on the other end. Luna is a high-energy combo guard who can score with ease and his passing ability is ever improving. His wide-range of basketball skills makes for a dangerous point guard to go up against. Look for Luna to lead his Kellogg Wildcats this season while making jaw-dropping plays along the way.

Zac Dougherty / 6’6 - F / Sugar- Salem HS, 2023

Dougherty is a well-sized forward who has not so far gotten the buzz that he deserves. The 6’6 senior is an absolute force on the defensive side of the ball. Dougherty led the 3A conference in blocked shots this past-season and recorded at least 2 blocks in all but five games last season. Dougherty can be effective on the boards especially on defense and if his offensive game can improve, underneath the basket especially, Dougherty will turn some heads this season. Sugar - Salem is looking for big production and growth from Dougherty coming into this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="923082" first="Braeden" last="Blackmore"] / 6’2 - G / Bonners Ferry HS, 2023

Blackmore is a name that can really jump the state’s top ranks after the 2023 season is all said and done. The 6’2 senior guard is an terror for any opposing defense as he can score in bunches. Blackmore is a solid shooter from all spots on the floor and his shooting stroke is admirable. He is great at moving without the ball and getting high quality looks. He can get to the free-throw line with ease and he does a great job at keeping his teammates involved. Blackmore is active defender and his quick hands help him get timely steals. He is a natural vocal leader and is everything you want in a true combo-guard. Blackmore is going to put more people on notice in 2023 and we should all consider ourselves lucky that we will be able to witness it.

[player_tooltip player_id="921089" first="Trentyn" last="Kreager"] / 6’2 - G / Priest River HS, 2023

If you want a player that can shoot the lights out any given night, Kreager is your guy. The incoming senior guard is one of the better scorers you will find across the state. He can get his shot off well, especially from three point land. He scored at least two three point baskets in every game this past year. The talented lefty can be counted on to hit a clutch shot for his Spartans team at any given time. Kreager will look to get even more production as he is going to be looked at as the true leader of his team this year. Watch out for this streaky Kreager to woo you with his shooting heroics on a nightly basis in 2023.
