SubscribePrep Hoops Next returns to Dallas this weekend for The Tuneup and it is looking to be another strong event with teams from all over the Southwest. The CR Sports Academy Knights are playing in their first Prep Hoops Next event of the year and we were able to catch up with their program director, Jamaal Pippins to learn a little more about the first year program.
“This is the first year of the program. I partnered up with a guy that played in the NFL on the Dallas Cowboys named Reggie Swinton so we are under his brand. We wanted to create an atmosphere where kids are able to thrive at the next level so we try to get them prepared as best as possible and our goal off the court is to teach the kids how to be young men living in this world.”
Pippins and his program are looking forward to getting involved with Prep Hoops Next and he discussed what he wants to get out of this weekend in Dallas.
“I am trying to get my kids more exposure with different competition against kids from all different states and see how they measure up and see what type of learning curve so far.”
The Knights have had solid progression throughout the travel season and Pippins is hoping that progression can lead them to a championship while in Dallas.
“The season has been pretty good so far. We have been to a couple of championships, have not been able to get over the hump yet so we are looking to finally jump that hurdle. We have been progressing quite nicely throughout the season from where we started.”
In order to finally get over that hurdle and secure a championship, Pippins is going to need good production from three of his main guys. He broke down who those players are.
Maziyah Curry: “He is a strong solid guard that plays both ends of the floor nonstop.”
Jermaine Conway: “He is an undersized big but if you were to look at the stat sheet after each game, he always has a double. He has a knack for grabbing rebounds and positions himself well to be effective down low. He is a left handed kid.”
Bruce Williams: “He is a kid that plays with a certain edge and once it reaches his full potential he is going to be a kid to keep your eye on. He plays hard defensively and can knock down a mid range jumper consistently.”
