Never underestimate a basketball player that lacks ideal height or size. There are plenty of good prospects that get the most out their natural frame.

Many of them reside right here in South Florida. These prospects have an extra gear that gives them an ability to create space and avoid contested defenders. More prospects in this category will be coming soon.

This list excludes the graduating 2022 class.

Here are some of the best...

[player_tooltip player_id="709231" first="Anthony" last="Floyd"] - Hallandale

[player_tooltip player_id="709231" first="Anthony" last="Floyd"] is an excellent point guard for Hallandale. The listed 5-foot-7 prospect is quick and agile as a ball handler. In fairness, Floyd is probably a bit taller (5’9/5’10) with another update. He can really move from side-to-side and finish at the rim. Floyd plays with tremendous body control and is not afraid to initiate contact. He averaged 15.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.6 assists per game. Moreover, Floyd hit 37 3-pointers and shot 76 percent from the free-throw line.

[player_tooltip player_id="1055732" first="Reece" last="Randolph"] - Chaminade-Madonna

Any South Florida list in this category must include [player_tooltip player_id="1055732" first="Reece" last="Randolph"]. Few players have his level of burst from point A to B. The 5-foot-9 guard will accelerate and attack the tin with the slightest opening. He can be a kid that can score 20 points off his drive alone. Randolph will become even better as he advances his skill as a shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295984" first="Javi" last="Rosell"] - Belen Jesuit

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1295984" first="Javi" last="Rosell"] is a solid prospect in Miami-Dade County. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent from the floor. In addition, Rosell shot 36 percent from the 3-point line and 75 percent from the stripe. His shooting numbers were much improved from his sophomore season across the board. For example, he shot 11 percent better from deep. He helped the Wolverines to a 19-7 record.

[player_tooltip player_id="962498" first="Daniel" last="Fernandez"] - Westminster Christian

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="962498" first="Daniel" last="Fernandez"] is a tough prospect out of Westminster Christian. The 6-foot point guard is a strong scorer in traffic while driving towards the hoop. Fernandez is compact and can handle extra contact in these situations. He is also very elusive and crafty as a ball handler. Essentially, he can lull you to sleep off the dribble. I saw him do it and then he ends up at the basket for a layup. Fernandez averaged 17.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game across 13 listed contests.

Javian Jones - King’s Academy

2025 Javian Jones is quickly asserting himself as one of the better young players in Palm Beach County. The 6-foot point guard averaged 10.7 points and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor. Jones is a strong defender and rebounder out of the backcourt. He played heavy minutes which should only help him down the road. Jones helped King’s Academy to a 20-7 record.
