Here’s a look at some of the standouts from teams in the midwest.
Reed Sheppard | 6’3” WG | Midwest Basketball Club 2023
The Kentucky commit continues to impress as one of the top players on the 3SSB the last few years, and he was fantastic in the first weekend showing that despite his size he could be very impressive in the SEC. He’s very smart and brings a grit to the way he plays, he works well to get open and has a quick release and deep range off the move and he’s very consistent with his shooting stroke and decision making. He’s one of those players that rarely makes mistakes and impacts the game in winning in a lot of different ways.
Gabe Cupps Gabe Cupps 6'1" | PG Centerville | 2023 State #80 Nation OH | 6’1” PG | Midwest Basketball Club 2023
Cupps is the definition of a floor general, as he always is under control and makes his team better in almost every possible way. He plays with great pace and has good shift and a quick first step as well as the ability to change speeds and directions well, he’s a very good playmaker with great IQ and vision and he can score it efficiently from all three levels when he needs to. He’s an underrated athlete and a true winner who can control the game and handle pressure as well as anyone.
Finley Bizjack Finley Bizjack 6'5" | CG Byron Nelson | 2023 State #131 Nation TX | 6’5” CG | Southern Assault 2023
Bizjack was fantastic for Southern Assault when I watched them, as one of the top high academic players in the country showed that he can do a little bit of everything to help his team. He can play on or off the basketball and knows how to move or get to spots get open, he can really shoot the basketball well and has deep range and he can finish off the bounce in the midrange and around the rim. He scored it efficiently and put up big numbers while not being selfish and making others better too.
Micah Robinson Micah Robinson 6'6" | SF Oak Hill Academy | 2024 State #91 Nation VA | 6’6” WF | Southern Assault 2024
Robinson was one of the most talented and impressive 2024s that I watched at 3SSB, as the 6’6” wing has a lot of tools that translate to the highest level of college basketball. He has great positional size with a strong frame and good length, he can knock down shots from deep coming off the move and he can get to the rim and finish above the rim and through contact as well. He’ll continue to see his recruitment rise as he puts up big numbers against older players this summer.
Jakobe Walter | 6’5” SG | Team Trae Young 2023
Walter caught my eye early and I made it a point to watch him play multiple times as I was very intrigued with his scoring ability and see why he’s considered a nationally ranked player. The Texas wing has a great frame for basketball as he’s long and athletic, he can score the ball from all over the floor and hits tough shots and he comes at you time and time again and gives you no breaks. He has a scorers mentality and it’s in his DNA, and he can fill it up with the best of them.
Kaden Cooper Kaden Cooper 6'4" | SG Ada | 2022 OK | 6’4” SG | Team Trae Young 2023
Cooper is another impressive wing for Trae Young, as the 6’4” wing is a super athlete who can make plays others simply can’t make and has huge potential on both ends of the floor. He’s explosive with his first step and can get to the rim with ease where he has great hang time and finishing ability, he can raise up and knock down contested shots over people and he has huge potential on the defensive end too. He’s very good now but his best basketball is likely ahead of him.
