2022 Southwest Salsa Slam Invitational!

This is the 17th Annual Southwest Salsa Slam Invitational Tournament. This Tournament started Thursday May 5th and will continue on to Sunday May 8th. The Tournament is hosted by teams from New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Colorado. This article will cover part two of the top standouts from the varsity division. <img class="size-medium wp-image-1449697 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/marcus-crop-576x379-1652040074-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" />   [player_tooltip player_id="1172926" first="Marcus" last="Wilson"]- 6’4 Guard "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2024 [player_tooltip player_id="1172926" first="Marcus" last="Wilson"] is arguably the best player in this tournament. During this tournament, Marcus has played exceptional at the guard position. He has been aggressive looking for his shot and that has opened up his play-making for his teammates. Marcus has played at a high level on both sides of the floor which has given ABC Spotlight a lot of success.   <img class="size-medium wp-image-1449710 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/maldonado-crop-576x379-1652040629-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" />   Isaiah Maldonado- 5’7 Guard "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2024 Albuquerque High’s Isaiah Maldonado was one of the bright spots for ABC Spotlight during this tournament. He continues to grow and and add more too his game. Isaiah quickly became one of the states best three-point shooters in the high school regular season. He has added running an offense to his game and getting his teammates involved during this tournament.   <img class="size-medium wp-image-1449723 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/dalen-crop-576x379-1652040927-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" />   [player_tooltip player_id="1076710" first="Dalen" last="Moyer"]- 6’0 Guard "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2023 Sandia’s [player_tooltip player_id="1076710" first="Dalen" last="Moyer"] has taken his game to another level since the end of the high school regular season. He has always been a consistent scorer, but Dalen has improved his ball handling which has made him even tougher to guard. During this tournament he has limitless range and has extended his three-point shot which makes him have to be guarded from half-court. What has made him unstoppable is when he drives to the basket, he can create his own shot.   <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/gideon-crop-576x379-1652041286.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1449731 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/gideon-crop-576x379-1652041286-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></a>   [player_tooltip player_id="1076699" first="Gideon" last="Harris"]- 6’2 Guard "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1076699" first="Gideon" last="Harris"] is a fun player to watch and during this tournament, one of the first things that stands out is his leadership. More often than not, he’s the one running the offense and when he doesn’t have the ball, he’s still the one communicating with his team. He has given it his all on every single possession and is as competitive as anyone in this tournament.   <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/sean-crop-576x379-1652041579.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1449738 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/sean-crop-576x379-1652041579-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></a>   [player_tooltip player_id="1124213" first="Sean" last="Alter"]- 6’8 Center "VV Hawks" Class of 2023 State Champion [player_tooltip player_id="1124213" first="Sean" last="Alter"] has been one of the biggest X-Factors in this tournament. At his size, he has been impactful on both sides of the ball during this tournament. He has been great on the boards getting rebounds and creating extra opportunities for his team and defensively altering shots around the rim.   <img class="size-medium wp-image-1449745 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/ants-crop-534x351-1652042100-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" />   Anthony Gonzales- Guard "VV Hawks" Class of 2023 Despite a tournament loss in OT to Nike Proskills EPTX-Black 61-59, Anthony Gonzales played well. In a game where they trailed late, he made some clutch baskets during regulation which included a three-pointer. Anthony also had clutch free throws to keep his team in the game and the final outcome came down to the final possession.   <img class=" wp-image-1449752 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/colby-crop-576x379-1652042462-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" />   [player_tooltip player_id="1076691" first="Colby" last="Wade"]- 6’4 Forward "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2022 Big man [player_tooltip player_id="1076691" first="Colby" last="Wade"] made his presence known with his ability to space the floor with his three-point shooting. He is an underrated offensive rebounder and made in impact with his size in the paint. He runs the floor really well for a big and is always a threat to catch lob passes from his teammates with his athleticism.   <a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/jonah-crop-576x379-1652043122.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-1449759 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2022/05/jonah-crop-576x379-1652043122-300x197.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="197" /></a>   [player_tooltip player_id="1234592" first="Jonah" last="Lopez"]- 6’2 Forward "ABC Spotlight" Class of 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="1234592" first="Jonah" last="Lopez"] is more than just a high level scorer and he showed that with his play in this tournament. Jonah played solid defense vs every opposing player he was guarding. He is a long and athletic player that impacts the game in various ways. During this tournament, Jonah showed he can play with other great players and off the ball without the ball in his hands.
