With two seniors graduating, this roster will bring most of their players back for next season and will have a few new additions to their roster. This team has hosted several tournaments and participated in plenty more this off-season. Their has been good play from many of the players but their has been a few that have stood out among the rest of the team.
Brandon Lagunas– 5’10 Guard “West Mesa” Class of 2023
After watching Brandon Lagunas in the regular season, he has really improved his game since the end of the regular season. He looks stronger and has been attacking the basket at will to open up his elite three-point shooting. Brandon is an elite scorer in this game and had a great junior season this past year. He can score at all areas on the floor and had several 20-point games in the last few weekends I’ve watched him play. He can drive, spot up for threes, and finish around the basket. Brandon has been getting to the free throw line more often and is consistent at converting his free throws. He is a fun player to watch and one of the most consistent scorers in the state.
Gabe Trujillo– 5’10 Guard “West Mesa” Class of 2025
Freshman Gabe Trujillo is having a good off-season so far. In each of the games and tournaments I’ve seen from him in person, he’s dominated almost every game. Gabe is a high level scorer that can do everything at a high level offensively. He has a good handle on the ball and is a great driver of the basketball. Gabe is more than capable of running the offense and does a great job in transition on the fast break. He is a good finisher around the basket which opens up his mid-range and long-range game. Gabe Trujillo is without a doubt one of the top players in his 2025 Class.
Donovan Cruz– 5’7 Point Guard “West Mesa” Class of 2023
Donovan Cruz is a old school traditional Point Guard that has taken his game to another level with his work this off-season. During each of these tournaments and games, he is the one running the offense on the floor. Donovan plays the game at a nice pace which isn’t too fast or too slow. He often makes the right decisions which has gave West Mesa a lot of success this off-season. Donovan knows when to set things up for his teammates and when to be aggressive looking for his own shot. He is a tough player defensively by staying in front of the ball at all times and contesting each shot. Donovan is one of the best in the state at taking charges defensively and doesn’t mind sacrificing his body for his teammates. He is a player every team would love to have.
Jeramiah Holtz– 5’8 Guard “West Mesa” Class of 2024
Jeramiah Holtz is a fun player to watch, he is one of West Mesa’s most competitive players. He is a athletic guard that continues to grow as a basketball player. As a sophomore he entered as one of West Mesa’s top JV players and found himself on the varsity roster by the end of the season. In a tournament at Hope Christian High School, he took the game over with his energy and it was contagious to the rest of his teammates. Jeramiah brings toughness and grit to the floor, and his offensive game is underrated. He is good around the rim and solid in the open floor. Jeramiah is a very good athlete who will continue to impress throughout this off-season.
