The 2022 recruiting class is nearing the end of their recruitment out of high school and many top prospects are still available. This week we’re going to feature the top available 2022 prospects at each position. Colleges still looking for players that can help them win next season, follow along this series and get some talent into your program late in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="616817" first="Paul" last="McMillan IV"], 6’2 PG Cincinnati Woodward 2022: McMillan is one of the top scorers in Ohio high school basketball history, setting Cincinnati records for scoring and winning Gatorade player of the year in Ohio. McMillan is an absolute workhorse in the gym, and you can tell the shots he takes in the games are ones he’s taken hundreds of times in the gym alone. McMillan has a knack for scoring the basketball and draws fouls at a very high rate. McMillan’s verbal commits page shows he’s gained three offers in 2021 from Nevada, Arizona State and Georgetown. We’ll see which program comes in at the end and makes him a priority.

[player_tooltip player_id="809611" first="Mekhi" last="Elmore"], 5’11 PG Cincinnati Taft 2022: Another CMAC star, Elmore ended his high school career on top as a state champion. Elmore is an explosive athlete with the quick twitch and burst to beat you off the dribble and create his own shot. Elmore had some of his best games of his senior season at Dayton for the state semifinals and finals statistically and boosted his stock big time. JUCO programs should be looking at Elmore because he could potentially be a Division I prospect after a year or two of development at the JUCO level.

[player_tooltip player_id="967167" first="Trey" last="Robertson"], 5’10 PG Waverly 2022: Robertson led his team to the state semifinals, after overtime victories over McClain and Heath in the regional stage of the tournament. Waverly’s all-time leading scorer, Robertson had a legendary career in southeast Ohio playing for his dad Travis. Robertson was a three-time player of the year in the SOC II and was named first team all-Ohio twice. With Robertson’s work ethic and basketball IQ, he should be a great player to add to a college program.

[player_tooltip player_id="921793" first="Anthony" last="Johnson"], 5’11 PG Kettering Fairmont 2022: Johnson had a breakout senior season, leading Kettering Fairmont to a district title and pushing Centerville to the buzzer in the regional semifinals. Johnson’s stats his senior season were excellent. He shot 53/44/88 as his shooting percentages and only turned the ball over one time per game. Johnson played off two feet often and didn’t find himself trapped or in dangerous positions with the basketball often. Fairmont relied on Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id="1045464" first="Dasan" last="Doucet"] to create a lot of the offense for their role players and this recipe led to a lot of wins. Johnson recently picked up his first posted offer from Findlay, who seem to be in the market for another point guard after offering [player_tooltip player_id="809622" first="Khalil" last="Luster"] recently as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1082243" first="Jonathan" last="Effertz"], 6’0 PG Saint Ignatius 2022: The best shooter from this list, Effertz is a sniper from long range. The past two season’s he’s shot above 45% from behind the 3-point line. Effertz isn’t the athlete compared to some other prospects on this list, but could thrive in a system that needs him to take care of the basketball, distribute to the scorers on the team and make open shots off the catch. Effertz is also a tough defender who has the frame to put on some muscle with the right weight room dedication. Effertz posted an offer from UC Davis from the summer but I think Division II programs should be going after Effertz.
