Continue ReadingYear in and year out the Bill Hensley Memorial Run N Slam is arguably the best AAU tournament of the spring and summer. All of the top teams from the EYBL, 3SSB, UAA, NY2LA, and Prep Hoops circuits, along with the unaffiliated teams, descend on Fort Wayne and compete in this event. You won’t find a collection of talent like this anywhere else. We will begin previewing the weekend’s action by highlight 10 prospects who may be flying a bit under-the-radar that you will want to watch at the Run N Slam.
Chase Barnes Chase Barnes 6'1" | PG Fort Wayne Wayne | 2025 State #355 Nation IN (Fort Wayne Wayne H.S. 2025/OPS 2025 Black): In a very talented and deep Class of 2025, Barnes is certainly one of the better prospects in the state. He is an athletic wing that can really score the basketball in bunches. Playing with OPS 2025 Black this weekend.
Fletcher Cole Fletcher Cole 6'0" | PG Paoli | 2025 State IN (Paoli H.S. 2025/Indiana Elite Defenders 2025): After putting up big numbers as a freshman at Paoli, this skilled guard from southern Indiana has picked up with a strong spring for the Indiana Elite Defenders. Featuring a number of top prospects from the south, Cole is one of many players worth watching on this team. Recently got an invite to the IBCA Top 100 Camp.
Caleb Dewey Caleb Dewey 6'3" | SF Edinburgh | 2023 State IN (Edinburg H.S. 2023/Always Grind Never Settle 2023): Dewey is a do-it-all wing that will get a chance to go against some high level competition this weekend. The 6’2″ guard averaged 21.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game for a sectional championship team. However, at the Class 1A level, still is a bit under-the-radar in terms of statewide recognition. Fans and small college coaches alike should get eyes on him in Fort Wayne.
Aidan Franks Aidan Franks 6'2" | SG Wapahani | 2023 State IN (Wapahani H.S. 2023/Indy Heat Red 2023): A lot of focus and attention is paid to another guard on Indy Heat Red, Markus Burton Markus Burton 5'11" | PG Penn | 2023 State #190 Nation IN . However, this sharpshooter deserves plenty of praise in his own right. Franks can absolutely light it up from beyond the arc with serious range and quick trigger. A prospect worth following for sure.
Andrew Hedrick Andrew Hedrick 6'0" | PG Columbia City | 2023 State IN (Columbia City H.S. 2023/Focus Premier 2023): After a strong junior campaign at Columbia City, Hedrick is manning the backcourt for Focus Premier and will be facing some stiff competition in Fort Wayne this weekend. Very good playmaker that can get to the basket off of the bounce and has a nice pull-up jumper.
Kyron Kaopuiki Kyron Kaopuiki 6'3" | SG Homestead | 2023 State IN (Homestead H.S. 2023/Indiana Ice 2023): Kaopuiki is a versatile 6’3″ guard that can knock down open shots, attack the basket off of the dribble, and is a very good positional defender. Having a nice spring for a well balanced Indiana Ice 2023 squad. Playing right in his own backyard this weekend, look for this prospect to turn some heads.
Jake Skinner Jake Skinner 6'4" | SF Carroll (Flora) | 2023 State IN (Carroll Flora H.S. 2023/Grand Park Premier 2023 Black): Skinner is a 6’3″ wing that is coming off of a spectacular high school season and deserves more recognition statewide. Not sure if there will be baseball conflicts this weekend, but he is a good driver, rebounds very well from the wings, and can defend multiple positions.
Robert Sorensen Robert Sorensen 6'0" | PG Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN (Guerin Catholic H.S. 2024/Kyle Guy Elite 2024 Black): Sorensen has been scoring at a high level this spring for Kyle Guy Elite 2024 Black. The 5’11” guard averaged 20.5 points per game on over 40% shooting from three-point range last weekend in Louisville leading his team to a 3-1 record. Really bursting onto the scene with a great month of April.
Cadell Wallace Cadell Wallace 5'10" | PG Fort Wayne Southside | 2024 State IN (Bishop Luers 2024/OPS Black 2024): A smooth lefty guard that can really score the basketball, Wallace is looking to have a big weekend in his home city of Fort Wayne. Good shooter, dynamic off of the bounce, and a creative finisher at the end of his drives. Definitely a prospect to get to know from the northern part of the state.
Wyatt Zellers Wyatt Zellers 6'9" | PF Scottsburg | 2024 State IN (Scottsburg H.S. 2024/Indiana Elite Team Indiana 2024): This 6’8″ forward has continued to develop by getting stronger and more confident around the basket. He can get up and finish above the rim, has some reliable post moves, and can protect the rim defensively. Zellers has played well on the Adidas Gold circuit this spring and will get a chance to showcase his improvements back in Indiana this weekend.
