Division I college coaches were able to get out on the recruiting trail beginning at 6:00 as this weekend marked the second live period of the spring. The additional coaches lining the baselines always provides a little extra buzz to any event.
I began the weekend by taking in four rounds of games at the Lawrence Sports Pavilion, a beautiful facility near the campus of Kansas University. To follow are six prospects that stood out on Friday night at the Lawrence Sports Pavilion.
Nikola Abusara Nikola Abusara 6'5" | SF Benet | 2023 State IL (Benet Academy 2023/Full Package Black 2023): Abusara scored 14 points to help lead Full Package Black to an impressive victory on Friday night. The long, athletic 6’4” wing is a great driver with his ability to get by you with a quick first step and finish above you around the basket. He also has a smooth shooting stroke from the perimeter. Has had a great spring on the Prep Hoops Circuit and it was certainly true once again on Friday night.
Ahmere Carson Ahmere Carson 6'2" | PG Anderson | 2023 State IN (Anderson H.S. 2023/EG10 2023): Another game, another mention on the top performer’s list for the highly skilled 6’2” left-handed guard. Carson went off for a game-high 25 points in EG10’s win on Friday evening. He is a strong ball handler who doesn’t get sped up and is an excellent finisher around the basket at the end of his drives. Just has a knack for scoring the basketball.
Mason Jones Mason Jones 6'7" | PF Valparaiso | 2023 State IN (Valparaiso H.S. 2023/Team GRIII 2023 Elite): This was Jones’ best game of the spring and to do that during a live recruiting period is a big deal. The versatile 6’7” forward poured in 22 points while scoring it in a number of different ways. He would get in the passing lanes and dunk in transition, attack closeouts, and knocked in a three-pointer from the wing. Breakout performance for the Division I prospect who holds a Purdue Fort Wayne offer already.
A.J. Lux A.J. Lux 6'3" | SG Crown Point | 2023 State IN (Crown Point H.S. 2023/Team GRIII 2023 Elite): After a great weekend Indianapolis for the first live period, the A.J. Lux A.J. Lux 6'3" | SG Crown Point | 2023 State IN Experience made its way to the state of Kansas. The 6’5” sharp-shooter nailed six three-pointers, most of which came in a flurry in the second half, on his way to 20 points in a win for Team GRIII Elite. Some Division I is going pull the trigger very soon on this prospect.
Brogan Madson (Mankato East H.S. 2025/MN Rise 2023): Madson stood out pretty quickly for MN Rise. Then, you realized that he is a 2025 prospect and everything he does becomes even more impressive as he takes it right at guys two years older than him. The left-handed guard got to the basket and scored it consistently. Absolute competitor.
Caden Wilkins Caden Wilkins 6'7" | SF Bettendorf | 2024 State #196 Nation IA (Bettendorf H.S. 2024/Iowa Barnstormers 2024 Gold): This 6’5” wing put on a show as soon as the event tipped off on Friday night. Wilkins is a physical, athletic guard with a great mid-range game and the ability to finish above the rim. Arguably one of the best prospects in the gym.
