Heartland Kick was a huge success!
Each gym was stacked with talent and each program put up some eye-catching performances. It’s important to recognize the skills that these young athletes are displaying while playing at events – going against some of the top talent in the Nation and being able to compete the way these athletes are is impressive.
Take a look at the second group of players that stood out in Indiana.
Malique Pearse | ATC Athletics
Pearse’s grit and grind play made for a constant steady attack. He displayed an impressive jump stop to floaters, he kicked out to shooters, and used his athleticism to finish over defenders. His hard nosed mentality on defense was contagious for ATC Athletics. His do-it-all mentality made for a great showing at the Heartland Kick Off.
Theo Troutman | Team Teague
Team Teague’s defensive anchor Theo Troutman showed elite skill on the block. He was pivoting and shooting over either shoulder, causing defense to leave their assignment, and using his positioning to score on second-chance baskets. His impact on the defensive resulted in; one shot possessions, altered attempts at the rim, and consistently causing opponents to settle for perimeter shots.
Ryan Hendricks | GCG Milwaukee
Hendricks thrived at; creating his shot off the dribble, driving and kicking to the open teammate, and sacrificing his body to get to the line. His fluid ball handle fueled the offensive attack for GCG Milwaukee.
Tyler’s motor is unreal. He had a unique speed about him that was contagious to his teammates. He rarely was sped up – he played his game the entire game. Tyler proved to have a nice touch on the ball and used it to knock down some impressive shots from deep.
Jaylan Mitchell | Team Teague
Mitchell had a point forward mindset. He was pushing the tempo before the defense could set up. He did noticeably well at setting the table in the half court, creating for himself and others in between. His impact on Team Teague was at the forefront at the Heartland Kick Off.
