I bounced between Sport One/Parkview Fieldhouse, Spiece Fieldhouse, and Turnstone taking in as many Indiana teams as possible. Here is a quick notebook recapping what I saw from Friday evening. Indy Heat 2024 Cruises on Back of Young Talent
The Indy Heat 2024 EYBL team is an impressive group to watch. When you consider that their two best players are also freshmen who are playing up a year it becomes even more impressive. On Friday evening against Shining Stars Price 2024 from Ohio, 6’7″ forward Trent Sisley Trent Sisley 6'8" | PF Heritage Hills | 2025 State #47 Nation IN (Heritage Hills H.S. 2025) and 6’7″ guard Jalen Haralson Jalen Haralson 6'7" | PG La Lumiere | 2025 #8 Nation IN (Fishers H.S. 2025) scored a team-leading 13 and 12 points respectively as they cruised to a 60-34 victory. Both of these prospects are as good of freshman as the state of Indiana has seen in a long, long time. It doesn’t take long to understand why they had multiple high-major Division I offers before ever playing a high school game.
Class of 2025 Dominates at Spiece Fieldhouse
For the second round of games on Friday I ran over to the historic Spiece Fieldhouse to split time between watching Indy Heat 2025 EYBL and Indiana Elite 2025 3SSB. It was apparent early on in both of these games that blowouts were coming.
Indy Heat got excellent play out of 6’5″ forward Jevon Guess Jevon Guess 6'6" | PF Warren Central | 2025 State IN (Warren Central H.S. 2025). Guess has always been a beast inside and showcased those skills once again on Friday. He plays with a non-stop motor, is very strong for his age, and can go get rebounds outside of his area. His mobility and quick feet make him a very good scorer in the paint as well. However, it was his face-up skilled that really stood out in this one. Guess knocked down three three-pointers in an 85-52 win over Team FVV. If he can add that perimeter skill to his game he will quickly become one of the better prospects in the state.
As for Indiana Elite, their game had a 30+ point margin at halftime and was called well before time ran out in the second half. One of the most impressive prospects in this one was actually someone who has yet to attend high school. Class of 2026 prospect Luke Ertel, who is expected to attend Mount Vernon (Fortville) H.S., flashed his outstanding offensive skill set by slicing and dicing his way through the defense. The left-handed guard has a smooth jump shot and elite passing ability. High School teammates Chris Hurt Chris Hurt 5'11" | PG Crispus Attucks | 2025 State IN (Crispus Attucks H.S. 2025) and Dezmon Briscoe Dezmon Briscoe 6'9" | PF Crispus Attucks | 2025 State #107 Nation IN (Crispus Attucks H.S. 2025) were good in this one as well.
Summit City Elite 2023 Survives on Buzzer-Beater
It was fitting that 6’5″ forward Dalman Alexander Dalman Alexander 6'6" | PF Fort Wayne Northrop | 2023 State IN (Fort Wayne Northrop H.S. 2023) was in position to win the game for Summit City Elite 2023 after how well he played all game long. Alexander scored off of an offensive rebound putback as time expired to lift his team to a 64-62 win over Dayton Elite. He was super active all game long showing off his length, bounciness inside, and motor. Alexander finished with 12 points and an impressive 18 rebounds.
Out on the perimeter, it was 6’2″ guard Nolan Cumberland Nolan Cumberland 6'3" | SG Tippecanoe Valley | 2023 State IN (Tippecanoe Valley H.S. 2023) poured in a game-high 21 points. Cumberland is a great shooter, has enough ball skill to create his own shot, and is big/long enough to finish at the end of his drives against opposing size. Nice small college prospect for schools to follow.
Markus Burton Markus Burton 5'11" | PG Penn | 2023 State #190 Nation IN Puts on a Show in Indy Heat Red Win
At this point it is more or less expected to see Markus Burton Markus Burton 5'11" | PG Penn | 2023 State #190 Nation IN (Penn H.S. 2023) put up big scoring numbers against any level of competition. He has continued to prove that he is hands down one of the best prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2023. On Friday night, the 5’10″ guard scored a team-best 24 points in a win over Martin Brothers 2023. Burton is strong despite his small stature showing the ability to hold off defenders on his way to the basket and has the elite athleticism to finish in a variety of ways against size. On the perimeter, he is a knock down shooter with the shiftiness to create his own shot. He also had 8 rebounds and 6 steals in the win for Indy Heat Red 2023.
Other Quick-Hitters
- Ian Raasch Ian Raasch 6'6" | PF NorthWood | 2023 State IN (NorthWood H.S. 2023) stood out early on for Indiana Elite Team Indiana 2023 in a win over Full Package White 2023. The 6’5″ wing/forward is a great driver with impressive athleticism and strength. Probably one of the more under appreciated prospects in the class. Cooper Horn Cooper Horn 6'2" | SG Columbus North | 2023 State IN (Columbus North H.S. 2023) led Team Indiana with 17 points, Raasch had 14 points, and Luke Almodovar Luke Almodovar 6'2" | SG Noblesville | 2023 State IN (Noblesville H.S. 2023) added 13 points.
- Azavier Robinson Azavier Robinson 6'1" | PG Lawrence North | 2025 State #88 Nation IN (Lawrence North H.S. 2025) continued his impressive spring while playing up a year with George Hill All Indy 2024. They came up just a bit short, losing 78-70 to Wildcat Select 2024 3SSB, but the 6’0″ Robinson consistently made plays off of the bounce. He made pull-up threes from beyond the arc, got to the rim, and showed his ability as a passer as well. Solidifying as one of the very top prospects in a strong 2025 class.
- I love the trio of big men for Indy Heat Red 2023. All standing right around 6’7″ give or take an inch, Grant Leeper Grant Leeper 6'7" | C Homestead | 2023 State IN (Homestead H.S. 2023), Preston Ross Preston Ross 6'8" | PF Bishop Dwenger | 2023 State IN (Bishop Dwenger 2023), and Josh Furst Josh Furst 6'6" | C Blackhawk Christian | 2023 State IN (Blackhawk Christian 2023) are excellent DII/NAIA prospects out of Fort Wayne. They all are excellent defenders inside with the ability to switch on the perimeter, rebound very well, and finish inside. Good looking forwards.
