On Sunday, the Louisiana Sportswriters Association released the last of the all-state teams with the release of the team for Class 5A. With national signing day quickly approaching, seniors from the north and south are taking visits and talking to coaches virtually about possible futures with their program. I will take a look at the unsigned and uncommitted seniors who made the 1st and 2nd team all-state in classes 1A through 3A and highlight traits that should make them very attractive to coaches looking to nail good prospects beginning April 13th.

Class 1A

[player_tooltip player_id="781856" first="Reginald" last="Stoner"] (North Central) - The first team selection is the best on-ball defender we have in Louisiana. He takes pride in his defense and can completely change a game when he defends someone. Stoner has an improved offensive game as well scoring 23.4 this season. A school looking for a defender cannot miss with this kid.

[player_tooltip player_id="781860" first="Labree" last="Williams"] (Calvary Baptist) - Williams, who averaged 24 ppg, was named MOP for class 1A. He is a wing player who had to play in the interior, so he can hurt defenses from inside and out. Williams is also a crafty finisher around the rim and rarely has his shot blocked. The multiple dimensions to his game make him a very intriguing prospect.

Demarco Harry (Ascension Catholic) - Harry and his 22.7 ppg average landed on the all-state second team in 1A. He is a guard who lives in the paint. His floater game and his ability to get to the rim made him one of the better guards in this senior class. At 6’1", with his point guard skills, he can be a great change-of-pace guard for a college team.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051639" first="Dmitry" last="Payne"] (Lincoln Prep) - Payne averaged 16 ppg in his senior season and has been a varsity starter/contributor throughout his high school career. He is another one of the tenacious, on-ball defenders we have in Louisiana and his ability to play defense is what schools will love about him.

Tyler Smith (Central Catholic) - Smith is one of the better guards under six feet that I have seen this season. His explosiveness with the ball is unmatched and his skill finishing at the rim with either hand makes him a rare commodity. He may have been a second team selection but he is definitely a top tier talent.

Class 2A

Stewart Bonnecaze (Episcopal) - The 2A first teamer is a guard who can kill teams at all three levels. If he is defended too close, he blows by. When defenders play off, he drains the jumper in the mid-range or behind the arc. His movement without the ball and his shooting ability make him an interesting prospect at any level of basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051631" first="J’Michael" last="Gray"] (Franklin) - Gray made yet another all-state team in his senior season. The Franklin PG can direct a team or put the ball in the hole. His speed end-to-end is hard to compete with in the open floor. While I think he has a future in basketball, football may be where he gets his shot on the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1275309" first="Braylon" last="Richard"] (LCA) - Richard is another point guard who made the Class 2A first team because he knows how to run a team and put the ball in the basket. He has three point range three to four feet behind the line mixed with the skill to blow past defenders. When I think of a floor general, he is on the short list of guards who fit that mold.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051632" first="Leon" last="Posey IV"] (Oakdale) - The senior from Oakdale is a high flyer who can punish the rim when given the chance. It is no secret how he average 26 ppg his senior season. He can score at three levels and jump over defenders if he get the opportunity. Posey is a capable defender which should help him find a team as well.

Class 3A

Treyvontay Alford (Sophie B. Wright) - Alford had a coming out party when it came to scoring during his junior season. During his senior campaign, he expanded on that scoring 24.6 this season. Alford can score at three levels and has perfected the one dribble pull-up from the mid-range. He will only get better on the college level in my opinion.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211165" first="Albert" last="Shell"] (Wossman) - Shell came into his own during the season. As an all-around player, he did not put up gaudy numbers. However, when a wing averages 15 points, 5 boards, and 5 assists, it is kind of a big deal. Shell is a streaky outside shooter yet defends on a high level. Both of those traits may make him a wanted talent beginning April 13th.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051638" first="Troy" last="Cole"] (Donaldsonville) - One of the best two-way wing players in the Boot the past two seasons. This season, while earning 2nd team honors, Cole proved he was more than just a transition player and defender by averaging 17 ppg. His game has continued to blossom. He may just be scratching the surface with his talent.

[player_tooltip player_id="781838" first="Percy" last="Daniels"] (Madison Prep) - The Class 3A Most Outstanding Player reopened his recruitment recently and should have many suitors. He can rebound, score in the paint and run the floor with the best bigs in the south. Wherever he finds a home, that school will have a high IQ player who can man the paint. Daniels will be able to contribute from day one I believe.

[player_tooltip player_id="981595" first="Christian" last="Ferguson"] (BTW N.O.) - Ferguson is one of the top shooters in the 2022 class. He has one of the quickest releases and during the course of the year, he has become a better playmaker. At 19 ppg, he knows how to fill it up from deep. Teams always need shooting and he is one that can fill the bill.

Bryson Hardy (St. Louis) - The 6’2" guard out of Lake Charles is not going to wow you with quickness. However, he has a strong upper body and takes contact as well as anyone when he is headed to the rim. His ability to absorb the hit and finish is high level stuff. His second team election and 19.6 ppg will interest some looking for a point guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="981492" first="Dezmond" last="Perkins"] (Madison Prep) - Perkins is one of the most intriguing second team selections and he is on fire right now. He is playing some of his best basketball and he is coming off back-to-back state championships and an MOP performance in the title game. Perkins has a consistent jumper with good touch. That may bode well for him finding a home.

Daniels will probably end up at a Power 6 school and their is a chance [player_tooltip player_id="781860" first="Labree" last="Williams"] may as well. For the rest of these players, they may not end up at a big school but they have the skill and wherewithal to be contributors on the next level at whatever school that pursues them. This is a very talented group of players.

I will take a look at the unsigned and uncommitted seniors who made the 1st and 2nd team all-state in classes 1A through 3A and highlight traits that should make them very attractive to coaches looking to nail good prospects beginning April 13th.

Class 1A

Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner Reginald Stoner 6'1" | CG North Central | 2022 State LA (North Central) - The first team selection is the best on-ball defender we have in Louisiana. He takes pride in his defense and can completely change a game when he defends someone. Stoner has an improved offensive game as well scoring 23.4 this season. A school looking for a defender cannot miss with this kid.

J’Michael Gray J’Michael Gray 6'0" | PG Franklin | 2022 State LA (Franklin) - Gray made yet another all-state team in his senior season. The Franklin PG can direct a team or put the ball in the hole. His speed end-to-end is hard to compete with in the open floor. While I think he has a future in basketball, football may be where he gets his shot on the next level.
