If we’re talking about natural, fluid scorers, it’s between CJ Mitchell CJ Mitchell 5'10" | PG Omaha Westside | 2024 State NE and Thomas for this class’ best. Thomas has the handle, body control, and creativity required to be a great interior threat. He plays much bigger than his listed height of 6’0″, which comes in handy on the glass. If Thomas scales back his scoring 15-20% and replaces it with playmaking, the sky is the limit for the young guard. He has the passing touch and vision when he chooses to use it.
Alex Wilcoxson Alex Wilcoxson 5'11" | SG Gretna | 2024 State NE Current: 17 Previous: 21
Wilcoxson’s lightning-quick release and beautiful shooting motion make him one of the state’s elite spot-up shooters. He made 45% of his three-pointers on just over 5 attempts per game. His shot selection is almost too good for the caliber of shooter he is. The line between a good and bad shot is different for every player, and there are not too many looks that would qualify as bad for Wilcoxson. He should be getting up no less than 7 threes per game next season.
Taye Moore Taye Moore 5'9" | PG Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE Current: 21 Previous: 31
There was a clear improvement in shot selection and pace of play for Moore as a sophomore. I thought he was much quicker at identifying opportunities to strike. He made the pass as soon as it was available and attacked the driving lane as it appeared, whereas previously he sometimes acted too late and allowed the window to close. Once he fully embraces the physicality of the game and uses contact to his advantage, I think he could join the group of the top finishers in this class.
Quientan Mccafferty Quientan Mccafferty 6'9" | C Concordia | 2024 State NE Current: 26 Previous: 49
McCafferty is your classic interior center who uses leverage and footwork to best his opponents. He’s not going to win any track meets, but he does move well for his size. McCafferty had success as a roller because of his mobility and catch radius. Once he catches, he can turn and score with fluidity while navigating through traffic.
Emmett Knight Emmett Knight 5'11" | SG Creighton Prep | 2024 State NE Current: 35 Previous: 48
Knight will end up as one of the better shooters in the state. The scoring opportunities were not there in his role for Creighton Prep this season, but he scaled his game nicely and took on the role of a ball mover and defender. He has good technique when chasing shooters around screens, and his defensive positioning off the ball proved he has nice instincts on that end.
