Every kid’s dream is to be the hero of the championship game. Kids across Kansas have been rehearsing the last-second shot like the one Greeley County’s Lincoln Shafer hit Saturday on driveways and playground courts for as long as basketball has been played.

It’s the guys who come up big on the biggest stage that will be remembered for years.

The 2022 state tournaments are history. But the great thing about history is it can be broken down, dissected and reviewed forever.

There were many great single-game performances turned in this past week. In order to recap them, we’ve broken them into three categories:

Top Single-Game Performances (non-championship)

Top Championship Game Performances

Top One-and Done Performances

Without further adieu, here are the Top Championship Game Performances from 6A-3A this past week:

[player_tooltip player_id="1075925" first="Chase" last="Harris"], 6-foot-1 guard, 2022, Wichita Heights:

Harris gets the nod for best performance in a final. He was really good all season, but he picked the right time to perform like the Falcons’ best player. He came out guns a-blazing with three 3’s in the first half. He was a disruption on the defensive end and terrorized Blue Valley Northwest with his speed and attacking ability. He finished with 21 and 6 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id="891909" first="Christian" last="Bowen-Webb"], 6-foot-2 guard, 2022, Miege (pictured):

Bowen-Webb capped a great career with a nice performance in the title game. He showed off his versatile offensive game and his smooth athleticism. Interestingly, he hit 4-6 3-point attempts, same as last year championship over Louisburg. Bowen-Webb wrapped up his high school career with 18 points in a tough battle with Andale.

[player_tooltip player_id="1407975" first="Aron" last="Davis"], 6-foot-4 forward, 2023, Seaman:

Davis was injured for about half of the season, but he finished on top. He was the beneficiary of some nice dishes at the hoop from Seaman’s slashing guards. He threw down some nice two-handed dunks that turned the Emporia State gym into a party atmosphere for the Vikings. He showed his handle and acceleration on a full-court drive and slam. Davis was a perfect 8-8 from the field for 17 points, and grabbed 6 boards.

[player_tooltip player_id="1080196" first="Kaeden" last="Bonner"], 6-foot-1 guard, 2023, Seaman:

You knew it was the Vikings’ day when Bonner drilled a buzzer-beater from the volleyball line at Emporia. Bonner had the touch in the final, hitting 3-3 from deep (and I mean DEEP!), and both of his free throws. He scored 15 in the championship. The junior showed off more than shooting touch. He was a ball hawk on defense, handled defensive pressure, and made a few nice dishes on drives into the lane. Bonner just continues to round out his game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076404" first="Brayden" last="Schilling"], 6-foot-6 forward, 2022, Hesston:

Schilling gets the pick to represent Hesston, a team that is about as balanced and void of stars as a title team could be. Sure, [player_tooltip player_id="891932" first="Cason" last="Richardson"] is the Swathers' unquestioned leader, but they seem to get wins with balanced production in every game. On Saturday, the long and powerful senior had a perfect offensive game, hitting 4-4 from the field and 5-5 from the line to record a team-high 13 points.

[player_tooltip player_id="891912" first="Nahcs" last="Wahwassuck"], 6-foot-5 guard, 2022, Royal Valley:

Wahwassuck wrapped up a great career with a valiant effort in a 3A title game loss to Hesston. While the rest of the Panthers struggled to score, Wahwassuck tried to rally them in the second half. He distributed 5 assists, and battled to 22 points in the loss, which was the highest point total by a member of a losing team.
