In this article I’ll be discussing the top performers from the district title games including Tiffin Calvert’s win over Ottoville and Antwerp’s victory against Marion Local.
Blake Ronski, 6’3 SF Tiffin Calvert 2022: Ronski was a match-up problem for Ottoville as his athleticism at the wing position was tough to contain. Ronski did a good job being patient when finding the basketball after traps were broken by the Calvert guards. Ronski also knocked down a couple 3-pointers with a quick release. Ronski is a part of an all-senior starting lineup for Calvert.
William Miller William Miller 6'2" | PG Ottoville | 2022 State OH , 6’0 PG Ottoville 2022: Miller went from sidekick to Josh Thorbahn and Ryan Suever to the unquestioned leader for Ottoville this season. It was impressive that Miller got his team to the regional stage of the tournament and did his best to put his team on his back in this one. Miller was tough to stay in front of throughout the whole game and was the best athlete on the court. Miller started forcing some deep 3’s in an attempt to bring his team back at the end, however before that was efficient from the floor as well. Watching Miller and Garrett Spaun Garrett Spaun 6'0" | PG Tiffin Calvert | 2022 State OH go back and forth was exciting for fans as both should be solid point guards at the Division III level.
Jack Knapke, 6’8 C Marion Local 2024: Knapke was a main reason why I made the trip to watch these games and didn’t disappoint me at all. Knapke ended with 16 rebounds and made his presence known throughout the entire game. Knapke has a big frame and wide shoulders that allowed him to put up big scoring numbers, until he was met with Jagger Landers Jagger Landers 6'7" | PF Antwerp | 2022 State OH . Despite not being able to score in the paint very often, I was impressed with Knapke’s size and skill. Knapke clearly needs to improve his foot speed and make it harder to block his shot, but there’s a lot to like about his game right now.
Jagger Landers Jagger Landers 6'7" | PF Antwerp | 2022 State OH , 6’7 PF Antwerp 2022: Landers can hurt you in so many different ways and his passing won Antwerp the game. It’s so impressive to see the clear best player on the floor sacrifice his scoring for his other teammates as Landers killed double teams with dimes all game. Landers only ended with a couple made baskets, but had a huge impact on the win.
Landon Brewer Landon Brewer 6'5" | SG Antwerp | 2024 State OH , 6’3 SF Antwerp 2024: Somebody had to score the basketball for Antwerp to win and Brewer stepped up and made timely shots to help his team advance. Brewer looked more confident with the ball in his hands and made some tough shots from the outside. Despite missing a couple early layups, Brewer still easily led the game in scoring. Brewer should be expected to take over as the leader for the Archers next season, but is doing a great job on a mostly senior laden squad looking to win a state title.
