Below is a review of six uncommitted 2022 prospects who impressed us with their remarkable level of play during the PIAA state tournaments. In our opinion, they were already legitimate college prospects and their outstanding performances during states only provided further evidence that college coaches should be lining up to sign these kids.
Tyson Allen Tyson Allen 6'2" | CG Archbishop Wood | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Archbishop Wood / SJ Titans / Shooting Guard: During the 2021-22 regular season Allen averaged a respectable 6.8 points per game. However, across Wood’s five state tournament wins Allen increased his production significantly to 10.5 ppg. Allen’s length and athleticism make him a monster on the offensive glass. He frequently converts on those 2nd chance scoring opportunities. During states he has posterized a few opponents with follow slams. Additionally, Allen has three-point range on jumper, is high IQ athlete and runs the floor well. Allen contributed 10 points and 7 boards in the championship game, but it was not enough for Wood to overcome Roman Catholic.
Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA – 6’3” / Constitution / Team Durant / Combo Guard: It is hard to believe that Beccles’ (2nd Team 2A All-State in 2020-21) recruiting stock could go any higher, but he has taken his game to yet another level. The logo range on his jumper makes Beccles a threat the moment he crosses half-court. He can also use his creative dribbles to score in transition or in the half-court. Plus, his athleticism and bounce allow him to play above the rim. In states Beccles averaged 21.6 ppg. while pushing the Generals to the 2A title game. Included in his latest stretch of outstanding play was a 28-point night in the 2nd Round as well as 29 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in the championship game. His improved effort at the defensive end was extremely obvious during the 2A state tournament.
Rasheem Dearry – 6’3” / Cheltenham / K-Low Elite / Combo Guard: It is well known that Dearry is an excellent rebounding guard and menacing on ball defender. However, during the 6A state tournament he continued to show that his offensive game took significant steps forward this year. He is now a certified 3-level scorer who will knock down triples in a defender’s eye. Over the course of Cheltenham’s state tourney run Dearry averaged 16 ppg. Highlighting his outstanding play in states was an 18-point performance in the 2nd round vs. Penn Wood as well as 17 points (3 threes) vs. eventual 6A champion, Roman Catholic.
Lamar Glover – 5’10” / Constitution / We R1 / Wing: Opponents tend to become fixated on stopping Constitution superstar Jacob Beccles Jacob Beccles 6'3" | CG Constitution | 2022 State PA . When that happened in the 2A tournament, Glover simply smiled and then slayed foes to the tune of 22 points per game. Glover is a solid three-point shooter who can create space for himself off the dribble. Additionally, he has speed and dribbling skills to score the ball on the fast break. Constitution finished as the 2A runner up. Glover had two performances during states that really should grab the attention of college coaches. He posted 24 points in the opening round and recorded 29 points (1 three) and 6 steals in Constitution’s semifinals win against Old Forge.
Deyishon Miller Deyishon Miller 6'4" | SF West Philadelphia | 2022 State PA – 6’4” / West Philly / Philly Pride Select / Small Forward: This physical and rock-solid prospect (200+ lbs.), led West Philly to their best season (21-6) in years as well as a memorable journey to the 4A quarterfinals. Because of his size, Miller (21 ppg.; 8.5 rpg. & 5.5 apg. in regular season) surprises opponents with his quickness, impressive hops, and ability to score off the dribble. As a bonus Miller owns a jump shot that is money all the way out to the 3-point line. The point-forward role he excels in for the Speedboys makes Miller one of most unique 2022 prospects in the area. Miller averaged 23 ppg. as he pushed West Philly to the 4A quarterfinals. Along the way he recorded 28 points vs. Dallas and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career. At the other end Miller’s combination of size, speed and physicality enable him to defend 2 through 5.
Jaylen Shippen Jaylen Shippen 6'2" | PG Lower Merion | 2022 State PA – 6’1” / Lower Merion / Philly Pride Select / Combo Guard: Division two coaches who are looking for a skilled, high IQ backcourt prospect need to watch Shippen’s film immediately. As a point guard Shippen is a mistake free ball handler who controls the tempo of a game, distributes to teammates, and can score off the dribble when needed. When he plays off the ball, Shippen can hit spot up threes or cut to the rim for a catch and finish. In Lower Merion’s District 1-6A championship game win Shippen posted 13 points. Then during the Aces four game run to the 6A state tournament semis, Shippen averaged 7 points and 4 assists per game. On defense, Shippen is a lockdown defender who is frequently assigned to the opposing team’s No. 1 perimeter option.
