Continue ReadingThe updated Prephoops Player Rankings have been released! These are our most extensive rankings to date with over 125 prospects ranked. The high school season provided us with an opportunity to go deep and evaluate prospects of all levels. Several players used the season as an opportunity to raise their profile. In this article, a follow up to Stockrisers Vol 1 we breakdown some of the stock risers in the class.
Dawson Dumas Dawson Dumas 6'1" | PG Elko | 2022 State NV 6’1 PG Elko 57↑54 – Dumas is indicative of a lot of the Elko players, a small-town player that’s undervalued. Dumas showed that he has the ability to play both backcourt spots on both sides of the ball. His three-point shooting ability allowed him to space the floor, while his defensive efforts allowed him to defend both the 1 and 2.
Christopher Smalley Christopher Smalley 6'4" | PF Douglass | 2022 State NV 6’4 PF Douglas 61↑55 – Perhaps Smalley’s value was best seen when he wasn’t around. With him out of the lineup, Douglas got off to a slow start. Once he returned, he was the catalyst of a state final four team. The big man led his squad in rebounding, that, his team value and 11ppg provided him with a boost up the rankings.
Sumi Akoh Sumi Akoh 6'0" | SG Bishop Gorman | 2022 State NV 6’1 SG Bishop Gorman 60↑57 – Despite not playing for Gorman, Akoh, made a move up the rankings. How, well first he’s a high academic kid, which allowed him to remain a viable option for D3 universities looking for prospects to provide financial aid to. Secondly, he competed every day against a deep, athletic, and talented crop of prospects in practice, and the R&J athlete more than held his own. On other clubs, Akoh would probably be counted on to be one of their key players.
Phoenix Wortham Phoenix Wortham 6'1" | SG Green Valley | 2022 State NV 6’1 SG Green Valley 75↑70 – Wortham was one of the top scorers in his division. The guard led GV in scoring, using a combination of transition finishes and three-point shooting. He has deep range and got a bump in the rankings after displaying his playmaking and rebounding ability.
Jaylin Philips Jaylin Philips 5'10" | SG Desert Oasis | 2022 State NV 5’11 PG Desert Oasis 104↑81 – I saw quite a bit of Philips during the summer, however, it was his play in the high school season that allowed him to rise. The scoring PG is a player. He showed some shiftiness getting into the lane, and displayed tough shot-making ability for his team.
Bryon Owskowski Bryon Owskowski 6'4" | C Basic | 2022 State NV 6’4 PF Basic 94↑88 – Owskowski is one of the top glue guys in the state. The blue-collar forward held down the interior for Basic. He teamed with fellow stock riser David Estes David Estes 6'7" | PF Basic | 2022 State NV , to help the Wolves reach the 4A playoffs.
David Thurman David Thurman 6'3" | PF Green Valley Christian | 2022 State NV 6’4 SF Green Valley Christian 110↑91 (featured image) – You could make the argument that Thurman could rise higher. The GVC forward put together a dominating season, leading the Guardians to the 1A crown. He has a nice touch out to about 15 and can score off drives to the rack. Perhaps his best trait is his defense, as the 6’4 forward is a bonafide shot-blocker from the 3 spot.
Andoni Fesenmaier Andoni Fesenmaier 6'4" | PF Elko | 2022 State NV 6’5 C Elko 109↑94 – Like Thurman, you can make the argument for Fesenmaier to rise higher. As it is, he saw a big bump in the rankings thanks to his toughness, interior defense, and rebounding. Every great team needs a player like that, and Fesenmaier was a star in that role for a great Indians team, that went on to take the 3A crown.
