ND & SD Gatorade Players of the Year

<p>It is the best month of the year for basketball across the country and that is no different in the Dakotas. It is tournament time and it is also award season. [player_tooltip player_id="787658" first="Joe" last="Hurlburt"] from North Dakota and [player_tooltip player_id="812196" first="Kalen" last="Garry"] from South Dakota were announced earlier this week as the Gatorade Players of the Year for their respective states. It is unique that both of these players play in the smallest class in their state (both in Class B), oftentimes it seems like the players in the bigger schools and cities get most of the attention. Not in this case! These two have been tearing it up all season. Hurlburt’s Eagles made it to the Region 1 Championship, he put up great numbers and broke many individual records at Enderlin along the way. Hurlburt also won the ND Gatorade Player of the Year last season. Garry is still rolling in the State Tournament, he and the Bulldogs picked up a first-round win yesterday at the State B Tournament in Aberdeen. De Smet plays at 6:00 tonight vs. Potter County in the semifinals.</p> <p>Hurlburt and Garry are both outstanding athletes and Divison 1 basketball commits. With that said, they are both excellent students. They also volunteer their time by helping with youth sports and they give back to the local community.
