GHSA State Playoffs: Top Guards Pt. 2

I traveled long and far across the entire state of Georgia from the North to the South, East to West to see some of the most intriguing matchups throughout the state tournament. Now that I can finally catch my breath, here are some of the top performers I saw over the past month of the GHSA State Playoffs.

2022 6-1 SG [player_tooltip player_id="1123943" first="KJ" last="Reid"] – Social Circle

Lethal mid-range shooter that gets to his spots at will. Rises and locates the rim in mid-air, contorting his body to hit tough shots. Wiry guard defends well, picking up steals and blocks. Has a nice ceiling at the next level due to his shot making. Tough cover one-on-one.

2022 5-10 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1130597" first="Tyrhell" last="Branch"] – Social Circle

Calm under pressure. Beats the press and gets defenders on his back hip. Good three-point shooter that can also get in the paint and finish amongst the trees. Strong compact build helps him when fighting for position on the glass. Sees the floor and gets his shooters open looks.

2023 6-0 G [player_tooltip player_id="1359903" first="Lamarius" last="Jackson"] – Social Circle

Springy athlete that crashes the glass relentlessly. Totaled 15 rebounds against Calhoun County. Earns second chance opportunities and converts putbacks. Plays bigger than his height. Great energy provider.

2022 6-2 G Tellies Wiley – Calhoun County

Fearless scorer with elite three-point range. Will pull from 30-feet. Can explode anytime the ball is in his hands. Great pull-up jumper. Plays at a high speed. Scoring touch. Gets to the basket and finishes with either hand. Piled in 29 points vs. Social Circle. Major sleeper that is a natural born scorer.

2022 5-7 PG Dejuan Enocher – Calhoun County

Undersized guard with a flamethrower from deep. Catches fire with his three-point shot, pulling off the dribble. Drilled five threes in the fourth quarter to end with 26 points vs. Social Circle. Jitterbug quickness.

2024 6-3 G [player_tooltip player_id="1409988" first="Larry" last="Johnson"] – Beach

Smooth guard that can score in bunches. Shifty creator that has a quick first step downhill. Finishes with both hands. Good rebounder. Can suck in defenders and find open teammates off the bounce. Blow up candidate next season.

2023 6-3 SG [player_tooltip player_id="1020688" first="Antonio" last="Baker"] – Johnson-Savannah

Multi-dimensional guard that can do a little bit of everything. Skilled perimeter scorer with a reliable three-point shot. Gets into the paint consistently. Slick finisher that can also play above the rim. Creates for others, dropping off passes. Good rebounder and a versatile defender that can protect the rim and get into passing lanes. Should be a priority for D-II programs with D-I schools tracking from a distance.
