GHSA State Playoffs: Top Guards Pt. 1

I traveled long and far across the entire state of Georgia from the North to the South, East to West to see some of the most intriguing matchups throughout the state tournament. Now that I can finally catch my breath, here are some of the top performers I saw over the past month of the GHSA State Playoffs.

2022 6-3 G Elijah Martinez – Butler

Good sized guard that contributes in a variety of ways. Uses his body well on drives, spinning to the hoop. Gets in the paint and finishes with floaters. Solid offensive rebounder. Sees the floor well and creates for others.

2022 6-4 SG Lukas Platauna – Woodville-Tompkins

Exploded offensively in the postseason. Likes to drive left and finish with his right hand. Deep three-point range. Has enough creativity with the bounce to get past his first defender. Pull-up jumper and stepback are weapons.

2022 5-11 G Julles Spruill – Woodville-Tompkins

Soft floater in the lane. Good in transition. Draws attention with the dribble and distributes.

2022 6-1 PG [player_tooltip player_id="870168" first="Travion" last="Solomon"] – Northeast-Macon

Battled foul trouble in Final 4 but still produced 20 points. Skilled scorer that draws fouls on drives. Crafty finisher. Gets to his spots in the mid-range. Handles pressure.

2024 6-1 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1146472" first="Lavonta" last="Ivery"] – Thomson

Smooth sophomore scores all over the floor. Good three-point range and has a quick first step when taking his man off the dribble. Keeps his dribble alive when probing the defense and getting into the lane. Doesn’t shy away from the big stage.
