It doesn’t get much better than tournament time at North Central High School. Over the years, some of the best post season moments have taken place in that gym. Tonight, in front of a sellout crowd, fans were treated to a pair of exciting games that certainly lived up to the hype. It is no secret that Sectional 10 is year in, and year out, the best Sectional in the state of Indiana. That was proven on Friday night with four excellent teams taking the floor. Let’s dive in to the action.

Lawrence North 65 Warren Central 60

The first game of the evening got off to a fast start as [player_tooltip player_id="870213" first="Chris" last="Gunn"] scored 13 first quarter points to propel Lawrence North to a 19-17 advantage. He doubled that up in the next quarter entering the half with 26 of the Wildcats 34 points as they held on to a one point lead. Warren Central was staying in it with a balanced scoring attack led by [player_tooltip player_id="787634" first="Chandler" last="Jackson"], [player_tooltip player_id="769654" first="D’Ante" last="Davis"], and [player_tooltip player_id="1297060" first="Jevon" last="Guess"]. They were matching Gunn shot-for-shot by committee.

Warren Central tied it up heading into the final period by slowing the pace in the third quarter and bringing the score to 43 a piece. However, down the stretch, Lawrence North just had a little too much fire power as they opened things back up and hit enough free throws down the stretch to come away with a 65-60 victory. The Warriors finished their season with a 15-8 record.

Indiana University signee, and Mr. Basketball candidate, [player_tooltip player_id="870213" first="Chris" last="Gunn"] went off for a game-high 38 points as Lawerence North advanced to the Sectional championship game. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="1296979" first="Azavier" last="Robinson"] added 10 points for the Wildcats. In the loss for Warren Central, Louisville signee [player_tooltip player_id="769654" first="D’Ante" last="Davis"] finished with 18 points while [player_tooltip player_id="787634" first="Chandler" last="Jackson"] and Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="1297060" first="Jevon" last="Guess"] each added 13 points and 7 rebounds a piece.

Cathedral 69 Arsenal Tech 54

The final score of this game is in no way indicative of how the game went. Arsenal Tech actually led for nearly the entire first 24+ minutes of the game. They jumped out to a 9-0 lead on the back of three consecutive three-pointers by [player_tooltip player_id="1006434" first="Reggie" last="Bass"]. Then, they led 33-27 at the half after [player_tooltip player_id="643490" first="Rasheed" last="Jones"] and [player_tooltip player_id="870218" first="Dayveon" last="Turner"] each had big second quarters. Both teams big men, Antonio Lisenbee Jr. for Tech and [player_tooltip player_id="868219" first="Xavier" last="Booker"] for Cathedral, sat almost the entire first half with foul trouble.

Booker, a 6’11" junior, certainly made his presence felt in the second half when he returned to the floor. He immediately got a couple of dunks in the third quarter as [player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"] distributed the ball. Cathedral got it within three points, 45-42, heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter was all Cathedral. The Fighting Irish opened up on a 12-0 run in just the first three minutes and never looked back. Comer kept distributing, Booker kept dunking, and [player_tooltip player_id="1063971" first="Jaxon" last="Edwards"]/[player_tooltip player_id="868252" first="Jaron" last="Tibbs"] came up big at different times to secure the 69-54 victory. Arsenal Tech finished their season with an 18-8 record.

Eastern Kentucky signee [player_tooltip player_id="870212" first="Tayshawn" last="Comer"] finished with a game-high 23 points and 6 assists for the Irish who will now face Lawrence North in the Sectional 10 championship on Saturday night. [player_tooltip player_id="868219" first="Xavier" last="Booker"] added 16 points and 7 rebounds, all in the second half. [player_tooltip player_id="868252" first="Jaron" last="Tibbs"] chipped in 15 points. For Arsenal Tech, it was [player_tooltip player_id="1006434" first="Reggie" last="Bass"] leading the way with 21 points while [player_tooltip player_id="643490" first="Rasheed" last="Jones"] finished with 14 in the loss.
