LONG BEACH — Friday night at McBride high school gave media and a group of junior college coaches a look at some of the best available seniors and prep school players in the Southern California area and beyond. Below we take a look at some of the standouts from the Fullcourt Press Diamond in the Rough Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id="748765" first="Jorge" last="Ochoa"], Veritas - The 6-foot-7 forward is a wired-to-score type of prospect whose high volume, inside-out ability to put the ball in the basket should attract interest from schools at a variety of levels. Ochoa has improved his body by dropping weight and you can tell it has added some more pop to his legs and better conditioning to play with a high motor for longer spurts.

[player_tooltip player_id="1409416" first="Nathan" last="Medina"], Valley Christian - If we created a list of "bucket getters" from this event, Medina would’ve been at or near the top of it. Scoring comes easily and naturally to this 6-foot-1 combo guard whose best trait is his shooting ability from multiple spots and ranges of the floor. To add more intrigue to Medina’s recruiting stock, he’s an elite student, holding a 4.1 grade point average, in addition to his instinctual scoring ability.

[player_tooltip player_id="1409386" first="Seth" last="Brown"], Orange Lutheran - Brown has great positional size and shooting ability on the wing. At 6-feet-4 with a smooth three-point stroke and off-the-bounce touch, the senior from Orange Lutheran has tools that can help a college program. Brown isn’t just a shooter, however, as he showed off his straight-line drive and finishing ability above the rim.

Spivey Word, Damien - Word was coming off of a CIF Division 1 state championship and brought his usual all-around impact to this event. The 6-foot guard is a knock down three-point shooter with his feet set, a freakish athlete in transition and in space when probing the lane in the half-court setting and also makes a number of high IQ defensive plays.
