Stats: 19.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 4.3 steals, 52.0 FG%

Our Class 1A Player of the Year led the Lynx to the Class 1A championship while leading the team in scoring, assists, and steals. The future Upper Iowa point guard is lightning-quick with the ball in his hands, plays with a level of emotion that is matched by few in the state, and finds ways to impact the game on both ends of the floor even when he isn’t filling it up.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158420" first="Wyatt" last="Helming"], Lake Mills (2022)
Stats: 18.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 steals, 3.1 blocks, 56.6 FG%, 74.7 FT%

A 6-6 combo forward who can score from all three levels and defend multiple positions, Helming showed the state what he’s capable of in the Bulldogs’ semifinal loss to Grand View Christian earlier this month. With his size, physicality, and all-around ability, he was a nearly impossible player to defend at this level and his ability to cover the floor, protect the rim and control the glass made him invaluable.

[player_tooltip player_id="962674" first="Manny" last="Hammonds"], Grand View Christian (2022)
Stats: 22.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals, 48.8 FG%, 42.6 3P%

The leading scorer for the Class 1A runner-up Thunder, Hammonds is one of the best pure scorers in the state, regardless of class. He has a smooth handle and a really nice mid-range game off the dribble that he uses to score against bigger defenders, stopping on a dime and elevating into his shot. He has really improved as a perimeter shooting threat, and is also an excellent finisher around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167671" first="William" last="Kiburis"], Gladbrook-Reinbeck (2023)
Stats: 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 3.5 steals, 1.1 blocks, 50.4 FG%, 78.1 FT%

A nightly triple-double threat, Kiburis led the Rebels to an incredible 23-2 season and a trip to the substate final. His ability to dominate games even when he isn’t scoring makes him one of the best players in the state, but he’s also a really strong scoring threat who could become one of the elite scorers if he can continue to iron out his perimeter stroke.

[player_tooltip player_id="1367394" first="Preston" last="Gillespie"], Dunkerton (2023)
Stats: 23.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 steals, 1.2 blocks, 61.8 FG%, 40.5 3P%, 74.8 FT%

The leading scorer in Class 1A this season, Gillespie enjoyed a breakout year as the Raiders returned to prominence in northeast Iowa. An athletic 6-3 slashing wing, he was able to routinely get to the rim in transition and in the halfcourt for one of the most high-powered offenses in the state, which certainly helped lead to his ridiculous efficiency numbers throughout the year.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id="962618" first="Rhenden" last="Wagaman"], Springville (2022)
Stats: 22.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 3.6 steals, 57.2 FG%, 38.2 3P%, 77.1 FT%

A long and athletic 6-2 wing who posted some huge scoring games this year for the Orioles (he posted 41 points in back-to-back games in December), Wagaman ranked seventh in the class in scoring and did so while posting very impressive efficiency numbers.

[player_tooltip player_id="956891" first="Douglas" last="Taylor"], Newman Catholic (2023)
Stats: 22.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals, 60.0 FG%

The future Iowa baseball player was absolutely dominant as a wing scorer this season for the Knights, ranking fifth in the class in scoring and shooting 60% from the floor. He’s a 6-4 wing who can get to the bucket routinely and finish through contact, and he was excellent on the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167743" first="Nash" last="Smith"], North Mahaska (2023)
Stats: 19.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.3 steals, 52.6 FG%, 38.8 3P%

Smith is one of the most unique players in the class, a 6-6 wing who can score, rebound, and facilitate. He scores efficiently from all three levels and has the length and athleticism to make a major impact at the head of the Warhawks halfcourt trapping defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1167704" first="Tate" last="Haughenbury"], North Linn (2023)
Stats: 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 3.0 steals, 67.6 FG%

The energetic big man was incredible around the bucket on both ends of the floor for the state champion Lynx all year, scoring efficiently and providing strong defense in the paint. He’s a bouncy athlete who can protect the rim, finish above it, and he was excellent in their pressure defense using his length to create turnovers left and right.

[player_tooltip player_id="962678" first="Kaden" last="Hall"], English Valleys (2022)
Stats: 22.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 3.1 steals, 1.7 blocks, 81.2 FT%

A bouncy 6-3 forward, Hall is a walking double-double who helped lead the Bears to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in decades. He made a major impact on the defensive end of the floor as well, combining to average nearly 5 steals + blocks.
