The event included skills/workout sessions and a couple of scrimmages leading to a championship game. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some additional standouts I saw.
1. Omari Nesbit – Burbank(Sacramento)
Nesbit is a bit of an undersized guard, but he can score he basketball efficiently. He’s a good midrange shooter and he’s comfortable creating his own shot. He can shoot off the dribble and he faces up and rises up over the defender. he handles the ball well in transition and he can finish strong through contact at the rim. He’s also a good passer on the break. He crashes the glass well for a player of his size.
2. Marcel Hayes – Long Beach Poly
I’ve seen Hayes play a few times already and the one thing that really stands out to me is rebounding. He positions himself well in the paint and rebounds strong for a wing, especially on the offensive glass. He uses his length to extend and get tip-ins off missed shots. He’s also a good wing defender. He sprints back on defense. He has quick hands to disrupt passes and cause turnovers. A lot of his points come from rebounds or defensive plays.
3. Rui Han Rui Han 6'3" | SG Crean Lutheran | 2022 State CA-S – Crean Lutheran
Han is a bit of a combo guard/forward. He has the size for a big 3/small-ball 4, but ball handling ability for a guard. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. He has good body control at the rim and he finishes strong through contact. With the ball in his hands in the halfcourt, he shot fakes and hesitation moves to get the defense off balance and into the lane. He has good bounce and is active around the rim.
4. Isaiah Griffin – Burbank(Sacramento)
Griffin is a good scoring guard. He shoots out on the break and can hit pull-up jumpers in transition. He shoots well using screens to get free but he can also pull-up and shoot one-on-one. He has a good slashing game and he can get into the paint and finish the play himself or dish to his big men lurking in the dunker spot. For a smaller guard, he gets up and he can finish strong at the rim.
