Hayden Hillman (5’8/PG)
Team: Carolina Heights
Instagram: Diubleh_13
Twitter: N/A
One of the best scorers I saw in the 2027 class was Hayden. He is an all-level scorer that tries to dominate on each possession. He literally impacts the game every time the ball touches his hands. He can stroke the rock from behind the arc, and he was firing on all cylinders in the game I was watching. He has a good mid-range pull-up game off the bounce, has a good IQ, and has good court vision.
Teams will find out this spring and summer that Hayden is not a player that you can leave open.
Hayden made a case throughout the weekend that he was one of the best 2027 kids in the building.
Opportunities For Growth: Hayden is on a trajectory to develop into a complete all-around guard. Continuing to put in the work he has been doing and not becoming complacent with just being good at this level will be critical. I encourage him to continue developing his PG IQ and studying some of the best PGs that have played the game: Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson, and Kyle Lowry, just to name a few.
Bryce Curry (6’0/CG)
Team: Edmond Sumner Select 2027
Instagram: Bryce_curry12
Twitter: N/A
Bryce has good positional size and length. He had a lot of success scoring the rock throughout the weekend. He was tough off the bounce as he was explosive with his attack and when scoring at the rim. Bryce also flashed his athleticism, as he is quick off his feet and is what many would call a high riser.
He caused a lot of problems on the defensive end of the court as he stayed in passing lanes, and he contributed on the boards.
His mark was left at the Battle of the Magic City. Be on the lookout for Bryce this spring and summer. You will see a player that has not even scratched the surface of the caliber player he has the potential to develop into.
Opportunities For Growth: I would like to see Bryce continue to develop his PG IQ and floor general skills. He is listed as a CG, and I would like to continue to see his development and growth in setting up teammates and his understanding of playing in P&R action. He has a lot of potential and if he continues on the trajectory he is on now, he can become one of the most versatile players in his class.
Cayden Daughtry (5’3/CG)
Team: Handles Rebels Elite
Instagram: cay_d_baller
Twitter: @CayDBaller
Cayden is small in stature but showed a lot of game. His top-level speed with the ball in his hands made him a threat in the open court. He puts pressure on defenses, especially those with poor transition defense.
He scurries through defenders, and when you look up, he is in the paint creating for himself and his teammates.
He has a nice C&S game and had a lot of productivity from behind the arc throughout the weekend.
Opportunities For Growth: Because of his size, he will have to continue to work on his ability to create and play in space. Now everyone has different thoughts on this, but eventually, he will have to begin to focus on his strength and power. Regardless of people’s views on weight lifting at this age, he can commit to doing pushups on a nightly basis.
Omari Chaudhry (6’0/SG)
Team: Game Elite
Instagram: Weget_bucketz
Twitter: N/A
O is listed as a shooting guard but can easily be listed as a combo guard as he showed an outstanding balance between facilitating and scoring. In the match-up I watched between his squad and RJ Hampton, it was as if there was a tale of two halves. He was looking for his shot in the first half, primarily from behind the arc, as he knocked down three trey balls, pacing his team to a huge 1st half lead. In the 2nd half, he settled more into a floor general role and was creating for teammates.
He was extremely tough off the bounce as he is a downhill attacking guard that broke down the defense and made good decisions once he got into the paint.
Defensively he was very aggressive with his on-ball pressure.
Opportunities For Growth: I would like to see O continue to develop his ability to create space to get his shot off. As teams realize his ability to score the rock, they will try and guard him in numerous ways. With the ball in his hands often throughout the course of a game, it will be essential to continue developing how to create space to increase his production.
Quincey Provens (5’10/Wing)
Team: Tri-City Elite
Instagram: @slim.reaper24
Twitter: N/A
Quincey was one of the best shooters that I saw in the 2027 division. Without a doubt, the strength of his game is his 3pt shooting. His C&S mechanics are quick, and he is very efficient from behind the arc. He played to the strength of his game when I saw him, so it was difficult to see much beyond that.
He was one dimensional when I saw, but make no mistake about it, what he did, he did it well.
In the match-up against The Grind Is Real, I was able to grab the stat sheet, and he finished with 18 points, with 12 coming from behind the arc.
Opportunities For Growth: As I mentioned, Quincey is lethal from behind the arc. As teams become aware of that and scheme to run him off the line or not help off of him and not allow him to catch the rock, he will have to learn how to get open off cuts and setting screens. I encourage him to watch some of the great shooters on YouTube, Steph Curry, JJ Reddick, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, to name a few, and see how they worked to get open. Here is a YouTube clip to get the studying going: How to Get OPEN Like Steph Curry
