Here are 5 notable prospects from the update.
Brady Stump, Dobyns-Bennett: The combo guard was one of the bright spots for the Indians during their TSSAA Division 1 Class 4A State Championship run. Stump debuts at No. 77 in the latest 2023 player rankings. The 5-foot-11 combo guard can make shots from the perimeter and can quickly get into rhythm offensively. In the quarterfinals round of the state tournament, Stump had 27 points on 8 of 10 shooting in a 66-52 win over Coffee County. He went 5 for 7 from 3-point range. Stump made it clear during Dobyns-Bennett’s championship run that can score at an efficient rate when his team needed him to.
Kameron Clark, Houston: The 6-4 shooting guard debuts at No. 60. Clark isn’t one of the flashiest prospects in this class. He just gets the job done. Clark was active on both ends of the court for the Mustangs in 2021. He’s an efficient prospect as he made 50 percent of his shot attempts this past season. Clark’s activity on the defensive end had him at the top of the roster in steals per game (1.3). He finished the season averaging 11.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. Overall, Clark does what it takes to help his team win games.
Jailen Hardaway, Memphis Overton: The 6-6 forward debuts at No. 40. In 2021, Hardaway had moments in spurts of being very productive in the post. He can score with his back to the basket. Hardaway can step outside the paint and make shots from the perimeter. He can provide spacing. Hardaway still has work to do, but he’s heading in the right direction of being a coveted college prospect for many college coaches to keep an eye on.
Damarien Yates, Fayette Ware: Yates made a huge jump in the latest rankings, leaping 17 spots to No. 29. The 6-7 wing helped the Wildcats reach the TSSAA Division 1 Class 3A State Tournament for the first time under head coach Demarius Chearis. Yates provided reliable scoring, which was needed since senior big man JaSteven Walker JaSteven Walker 6'10" | PF Fayette Ware | 2022 State TN saw a lot of double teams. Yates can make shots from the perimeter. For the entire season, he understood how to use his length and frame to crash the boards and score over smaller defenders. In 2021, Yates averaged 11.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
Matthew Bilbrey, Stone Memorial: Bilbrey jumped 21 spots to No. 93 in the latest rankings. Bilbrey is a consistent scorer each time he steps onto the court. The 5-10 combo guard has a nice shooting touch, sharp ball handles, and knows how to get his shots within an offense. Bilbrey is close to automatic from the free throw line as he shot 90 percent in 2021. He’s one of the best scorers in this class, as Bilbrey finished second on the team in scoring (13.3).
