Here are 5 prospects that made a leap in the 2022 rankings.
Jack Browder Jack Browder 6'4" | CG Dobyns Bennett | 2022 State TN , Dobyns-Bennett: The 6-foot-4 combo guard was the perfect prospect in the front court during the Indians’ TSSAA Division 1 Class 4A State Championship run. Browder jumped from No. 124 to No. 37, and he was deserving of it. Browder had 30 points and 13 rebounds in the championship game against Bearden. He was very active on both ends of the floor. Browder is an underrated passer, as he has the ability to make the right reads out of full-court pressure. Browder makes up for his lack of athleticism with his basketball IQ. He’s always making the right basketball play, whether it’s taking the wide open mid-range jumper or setting the perfect screen.
Brian Gilmore Jr., Millington Central: The 6-2 shooting guard helped the Trojans win 16 games in 2021, a huge turnaround for a program that won a combined six games in the last previous two seasons. Gilmore, who moved up to No. 97, brought instant offense to Millington Central. He displayed his outside shooting ability and dependence of being a top two scoring option for a program that desperately needed it. In Gilmore’s only season with the Trojans, the Columbia State commit averaged 14.2 points, 1.4 steals, and 0.9 assists per game.
Rico Sain II Rico Sain II 6'2" | PG South Side | 2022 State TN , Jackson Southside: Sain moved from No. 62 to No. 29. The combo guard was at his best in 2021 when he was able to get out in transition. Sain plays aggressive. He attacks the basket with force and knows how to finish at the rim. Sain is no taller than 6-1, but he’s not afraid to get inside the paint and get a rebound. This season alone, he was the heart and soul for the Hawks.
Hayden Moseley Hayden Moseley 6'2" | SG Bearden | 2022 State TN , Bearden: The 6-4 guard was one of the best offensive players in the TSSAA Division 1 Class 4A State Tournament. In the semifinals and championship rounds, Moseley, who debuted at No. 84, went a combined 14 of 21 from the field. He showed his efficiency as a shooter. Moseley is also a pretty solid defender. He always self-aware of where his man is on the floor and where the basketball is heading. Moseley is the perfect big guard that can do a little of everything.
Zion Owens Zion Owens 5'10" | PG Christian Brothers | 2022 State TN , Christian Brothers: Owens was one of the toughest, smallest guards to touch the floor in 2021. He provided balance for a Purple Wave team that had ball handlers all over the floor. Owens, who jumped from No. 136 to No. 78, was a solid ball handler, solid passer, with the ability to make shots from the perimeter. Defensively, he was scrappy, refusing to give up easy scores. Owens ended his career with an undefeated season (28-0) with Christian Brothers and a TSSAA Division II-AA State Championship.Â
